7 import GS’s. Fowler, Lenize, Wallace, Housby (she plays GS sometimes), Nelson, Romelda, Harten. Have I missed anyone

So does this mean that Bassett’s time on the International stage is done?

What a sad ending for CBass if she is done. Lenize has never impressed me, gets in a grump and blames everyone else.

@mcleod – I feel the same and nothing has changed since she played in NZ.

Re CBass – I would much rather see a player choose when their time is up rather than being pushed out.

It’s a bit disappointing that Australia doesn’t have more starting GS in the SSN teams especially with CG and then the Worlds in the next two years. Might help NZ though :)

I’m not convinced it’ll be an issue for the Diamonds Maryann, as the Ferns won the last NWC with four shooters who primarily were playing GA at the time. The versatility might be hard to combat!

Hmm Garbin isn’t a GA. Cara K is ok not great at GA.

Reading between the lines – while not confirmed it looks like Romelda only signed on for a one year contract from the language of the press release. I think your 15th season is a nice round number to sign off on. I would not be surprised if she stepped away at the end of the season and called it a day. Probably Wallam’s best chance of a starting GS spot would be with Firebirds within the next two years, unless there are injuries.

Side note… I think we need a new term for international players who relocate to Australia permanently and consider it home. “Imports” doesn’t sit right with me. Romelda came from Jamaica to Australia to play 15 years ago when she was 19. She is an Australian citizen. She is married to an Australian. She speaks with a very strong Australian accent. Yes she doesn’t play for the Diamonds but it is not like Firebirds are “importing” her each year. Just food for thought!

@gwalk11 great point. Next in line is definitely Shimona Nelson.

Ian, where do I find your up to date teams lists? I saw that Lightnings has been finalised for 2022?

How about “players who are ineligible to play for Australia”.

Looks like it might be Tayla Williams tomorrow for Tbirds.

Definitely worried about the GS position for the Diamonds. If Bassett doesn’t get a contract, I doubt she will make the final team of 12, plus she is rehabbing 2 knees. At SSN level, Garbin won’t be starting at GS and neither will Austin. Koenan is the only Aussie GS who could spend considerable court time at GS during the SSN season and transition smoothly into that position at the international level. This is a massive problem in my eyes, I get that we don’t want to put a limit on imports but there has to be a solution that ensures that things like this don’t happen. Imagine if Koenan went down with an ACL, where would we be then with CWG right around the corner?
