Why Vixens’ ‘underdogs’ tag is a blessing; Fever’s X-factor set to shine
Beautiful (if a little chilly) afternoon at Kings Park in Perth, for the 2022 @SuperNetball presser.#SSN2022 #SSNGrandFinal pic.twitter.com/GDG4rJBC2e

Is either of tonight’s 2 umpires the one with the non-call for holding time at the end of last weeks game (after she did hold time at end of Q2 and Q3)?
Could someone please tell me the difference between intercept, pick-up and gain?
A gain is any gain of possession from the opposition through your defensive work. An intercept is when you catch a ball passed by the opposition. And a pickup is when you pick up a loose ball that’s been fumbled or deflected.
Tonight’s umpires are the same as last week I think.

@schmeetle – holding time just because it’s the dying seconds of the game is against what netball umpires are taught to do. The stage of the game should have the LEAST bearing on whether an umpire decided to hold time or not.
In last weeks game, there was no reason to hold time. The ball hadn’t rolled away to an unreachable place and the players weren’t holding it up deliberately. Kumwenda barely touched it and McDonnell had tapped it and then chased it and retrieved it pretty quickly. All in all, it was just a normal goal scored and wouldn’t warrant time being held if it was the first 30 seconds of the quarter, and the last 30 seconds should be treated the same. Otherwise it actually favours the team trying to catch up.
I’ve been harsh on Tara Warner in the last few games, but I think she handled that situation correctly.

Courtney Bruce has way more deflections than any other defender in the competition. She already has two in the first 2 1/2 minutes. Now a turnover against each team. 3-3
Fever the first to take advantage of a Vixens error and convert with a beautiful shot from Glasgow. Fever 6-4
Another Vixens turnover. No team has had more turnovers than Fever this year and been able to beat them. Fever 7-5
Dan Ryan wants a timeout to talk to his team. They lead 8-7 as we approach super shot time. Wow this first 9 1/2 minutes has flown by.
