Timeout called by Magpies. Unfortunately a couple of errors by Garbin giving Tbirds the advantage 20-18. Gabby Sinclair now on.
Defensively, Thunderbirds are doing great and yes they are doing better than previous seasons in converting but still losing too much ball on attack.
Magpies are putting that pressure on the in the back half of the court, Nelson doing pretty well (I type as she misses from right under the post) but the attacking half has had a turnover high quarter so far.
If Nelson hadn’t been so solid thus far, the scores would not be level.
God I hate watching teams waste so much time on the 2 point shot when it’s not falling like 3 times in a row. I think it can really bring down the overall standard of our product if teams are having a bad night with the super shot.
I’m also enjoying Madi’s commentary.
The game seems to be lacking intensity for me.
Wilson has continued her form from preseason.
28-27 to Thunderbirds at half time. Newton coming on at GD really restricted feeds to the Thunderbirds shooters particularly in the 2 point area.
I’m enjoying the commentary this game, no screaming and as Netballcrazy said, Browne is bringing good depth. Even my husband said good commentating. Is it just me, or are the thunderbirds purposely playing around with the super shot to wind down the clock? It’s a smart idea if executed well.
Also I feel for Sinclair. I still believe she is a better GA to Garbin, let’s hope she gets the recognition she deserves this season.
1/2 time: T’birds 28-27
Potgieter 16/20
Dwan 9/12Nelson 25/28
Sinclair 1/1
Garbin 1/2Horjus 11 assists
Wilson, Sterling & Jovic 3 gainsPenalties: Mag 28-20
Turnovers: Thu 13-11Still a bit messy but it’s just good defensive pressure.
Sinclair should be the starting GA for Collingwood. A very good GA with great range on her shot. Even if she doesn’t get the starting bib though I suspect (or at least hope) she will get a lot of court time because Collingwood’s attack flows better with her out there.
Yep, agree about Sinclair. I really like watching her play.
Someone said on another thread that T’Birds weren’t great knowing how to rotate their goalers. That half shows they were right. If T’Birds are going for the two point shot – even if Obst doesn’t want them to – then put Horjus in the goal ring with Dwan.
Tbirds have started very well in this third quarter. Elle McDonald has begun well since being introduced after half time. 35-31
T’birds up 36-34 as we go to a timeout approaching the power play in this third quarter. Impressive work by all 3 Jamaicans in the Magpies shooting circle.
For game two Lauren Moore has been ruled out
3/4 time: Tbirds 41-38
Potgieter 21/25
Dwan 9/12
Horjus 6/6Nelson 35/38
Sinclair 2/5
Garbin 1/2Thunderbirds threatened to get away to a good lead, but Magpies hung in there. This is still anybody’s game. Who’s going to stand up in this last Q?
Watching the thunderbirds work their way to blowing their lead is agonising 🤦♀️
This should be in the bagSteadying goals for Thunderbirds from Potgieter and now Sterling and Wilson are cleaning up at the back. Thunderbirds headed for victory here. Up 54-46.
