So impressed with Sophie Fawns!! The confidence was amazing and her performance backed it up. Hope she gets the replacement player contract, and I can’t see any reason why they wouldn’t give it to her.

Hopefully once the nerves settle and Hadley’s back in, they’ll do better on attack – I don’t think they lacked defensive turnovers or defensive pressure today, just struggled to convert. Still a very impressive performance given two massive outs!

How happy was Sophie Fawns after the game. What joy.

I maybe wrong but I think Sophie Fawns becomes the first Asian Australian (Asian Mom) to play at the SSN. And what a debut!!! Deserves a contract.

I still don’t get why Tara Hinchliffe is getting the start at GD instead of Kate Walsh. IMO Walsh is the better GD out of the two. Also glad to see Bakewell-Doran getting the start over Jenner. She was more effective than Jenner so hopefully, she can continue the form to today.

                1/4 time: Firebirds 18-17.

                Koenen 8/10
                Batcheldor 8/10

                Wallam 12/12
                Bueta 4/5

There’s that rule again. I’m sure Bueta got her shot off before time was up. Anyway, what a great quarter of netball! Still recovering from that passage of play from Wallam.

Oh, that’s why I am enjoyIng this game…Jenner isn’t on the court.

But wow, Wallam….sorry she didn’t get picked up in earlier seasons.

Brilliant stuff from Bakewell-Doran. We’re seeing some terrific skills in this game. Firebirds 31-24

Bakewell-Doran reminds me of Harby-Williams with little burst of speed to get a tip or intercept. Corletto too.

                      Good reader of the play.

Hard to see where the Lightning win a game this season.. some big decisions looming for this club over the next six months.

Now Dehaney blocks Wallam and creates the turnover. But it gets undone at the other end however and the lead grows. Firebirds 46-30

                              Lightning midcourt is woeful.

Dehaney is playing quite well and it’s not all one way traffic for Wallam. But then I’ve noticed Wallam has moved away from the post, it looks like it is her own set up to free up Space for Bueta to drive in.

                                  3/4 time: Firebirds 59-39

                                  Koenen 19/24
                                  Batcheldor 19/25

                                  Wallam 44/49
                                  Bueta 11/12

A 20 goal lead for Firebirds and they’ve now made their first changes of the game. Simpson and Bakewell-Doran getting a well-deserved rest. Lightning playing for pride now.
