The depth in the shooting ranks now is exciting though. Especially the young talent. Every team seems to have a breakout young shooter, Batcheldor, Allen, Fawns, Samason or Lucy Austin (even if we haven’t see her at SSN yet). Their time will come. Just about each team working out how best to bring them into the lineups without going too fast. Tough balance.
At least we have a little while before we see the actual team for CWG. Gives all players a further chance to prove themselves.
I think the squad announcement today will only have a couple of new additions (Wallam, Dwyer as a full member, and Possibly Rav), and Jenner may be dropped.
The only one I can see being dropped completely is Jenner. Bassett will leave a spot as well. I probably wouldn’t have Anstiss or Charles in there but expect they may well be…..
They had 21 last time so if they do take Jenner and Bassett off that leaves 19 and Marinkovich has indicated that she might not select 22 to leave room for additions later. Dwyer will come in so that’s 20. Not a lot of room to move.
Are the announcing the development squad as well? If so that could be cut down in numbers.
Fever:
GS Fowler
GA Glasgow
WA Teague-Neeld
C Simmons
WD Anstiss
GD Aryang
GK BruceSwifts:
GS Housby
GA Singleton
WA Proud
C Hadley
WD Turner
GD Klau
GK O’ShannassyUMPIRES: Tara Warner and Tayla Favell
O’Shannassy has started brilliantly
1/4 time: Fever 20-19
Fowler 16/16
Glasgow 3/5Housby 11/13
Fawns 1/2A couple of uncharacteristic errors from Jhaniele Fowler and Housby went bang with the super shot. She’s 4 from 4 now! What an action-packed quarter. End-to-end stuff. Can Swifts stay with Fever?
Very nice to see O’Shannassy making the most of her chance here and playing well
1/2 time: Fever 40-36
Fowler 30/31
Glasgow 6/10Singleton 5/6
Housby 17/19Wow. Fowler lands a super shot right on 1/2 time. For Fever, Courtney Bruce is running rampant. She has 6 gains in a half. Meanwhile, Housby is 7/7 from 2-point land. And Singleton is 2/2!
Housby has certainly become the super shot queen this year. Swifts would be in a world of hurt without it.
Agree with the sentiment about O’Shannessy. Lovely to see. I will always have a soft spot for Smith but I will admit that this is probably their best defensive lineup. Smith matches up better against other teams though so will still get a chance there (eg TBirds, Vixens).
Seriously a super shot is a mid range shot, not that difficult. Needs to be further out than that to actually be any where near decent.
Wow, you can’t take your eyes off this one. So many momentum swings. But now a couple of turnovers from Swifts. Bruce and Aryang are so dangerous in and around that circle. Fever 50-45
Courtney Bruce possession gain count – 9. And climbing. Important time now for Swifts. They couldn’t keep up that incredible super shot % and you feel now that the elastic band may break. Fever 53-45.
3/4 time: Fever 54-47
Fowler 43/44
Glasgow 7/13Housby 22/28
Fawns 5/8Tough now for Swifts. The super shot was keeping them in this one, but in that 3rd Q, they had 5 attempts for just 1 success. The big difference is in the possession gains: Fever 14, Swifts only 5.
Indecision from Simmons, Housby snaps up a loose pass but then she can’t convert. Swifts need to take all their opportunities if they’re to win this one. Now Aryang gets a hand in and Fever are threatening to run away with it.
