Sad that Samason is warming the bench, I would love her at GS with Austin. I wonder how many years Kumwenda will continue to play for? A Samason/Austin attack end could be lethal for Vixens in the future.
Ha ha Tully…..yes K_Aus…..not L_Aus…..
Gosh the stools the commentators sit on are so unflattering.
Wonder if Samason will get any court time this year now the CWG squad has been announced? Probably want that austin, Watson, Moloney vibe to get going. 🙄
Yes, JR, you don’t want to be dressed in black like Madi Browne was if you’re sitting on those stools.
Samason is an amazing player who is wasted on the bench. From memory she is on a one year contract. Wonder if she will move.
Kumwenda is probably on her last contract. The next of the dominant starting shooters to retire / depart SSN will probably be Fowler and Kumwenda.
Samason is on her first contract. The term of it was not announced. Vixens did not announce the term of any of them.
Why would she leave when she is the box seat to be the starting GS in a year or two? If she goes to FBs, Lightning, Swifts (Wallace will be back), Giants or Magpies she will be behind younger international standard GSs and waiting longer for a genuine opening. Thunderbirds will prioritise Lucy Austin.
Getting a starting GS SSN spot is not easy. Look at Garbin.

I was thinking last night, Kumwenda is one shooter who Sterling can’t dominate.
Credit also has to go to the Vixens’ game plan and their feeders as well. They play short and sharp. They aren’t aerial. Sterling is at her best in the air.
Firebirds:
GS Wallam
GA Bueta
WA Dunkley
C Ravaillion
WD Simpson
GD Bakewell-Doran
GK Usoro-BrownMagpies:
GS Nelson
GA Garbin
WA Browne
C Jovic
WD Brazill
GD Ward
GK MentorGreat start from the Magpies. Up 12-8 as we head towards the power play. Jodi-Ann Ward is having a cracker.
1/4 time: Magpies 18-16
Wallam 9/12
Bueta 6/7Nelson 12/14
Garbin 6/9A red hot opening Q from the Magpies. Interestingly, they’ve had more turnovers than the Firebirds, but the big difference is in the gains: 6-2. Ward has 4 already and this has Magpies on top.
Ash Braz is in everything here. Magpies are on fire for this game. Firebirds will need to lift quickly. It’s just not working today. Magpies 30-26
Firebirds working for super shots. It’s fine when you score them, but when you miss, it just means more pressure. Magpies playing well, just taking the ones and leading 36-30
1/2 time: Magpies 37-31
Wallam 20/27
Bueta 9/10Nelson 28/34
Sinclair 2/4Magpies are all over this. Their all-court defence is causing so many problems. Even Nelson has a possession gain. They look by far the more composed side out there. Firebirds playing catch-up.
