A couple of uncharacteristic errors from Liz Watson and Firebirds pounce to lead 13-10 as we go into the Power 5.
Kumwenda shaky with a few simple missed shots. Samason would be very handy, Kumwenda hasn’t been the rock she used to be
1/4 time: Firebirds 18-15
Kumwenda 9/12
Austin 5/8Wallam 15/16
Bueta 3/3A very entertaining quarter ends with Firebirds up by 3. They’ve looked marginally the steadier of the two teams. Incredibly, Liz Watson with the lowest NNP on the court at the moment.
Nanator, I don’t know what it is. All season so far, Kumwenda hasn’t looked as steady and reliable as she used to.
Vixens are missing Samason. I said a few rounds ago that Kumwenda’s unforced errors and rushing would end up hurting Vixens. Unfortunately Rahni hasn’t been there to snap up the opportunity. When she is back they have to find a way to move her into the starting 7 or their season is over. Kumwenda and Austin is not the correct combination.
Vixens could really use Samason right now, hopefully her injury isn’t too serious
And just like that, the lead is 6. Donnell Wallam has 25 goals in 25 minutes.
Why isn’t Austin lining up for rebounds?
Bit of momentum back to Vixens at the end of that quarter even tho’ it was a shooting fest….lead reduced to 4 after being 6 (7?) during that quarter.
1/2 time: Firebirds 36-32
Kumwenda 22/25
Austin 9/14Wallam 28/29
Bueta 8/8Well, what a cracking first half. For a while there, it looked like it was all getting away from the Vixens. But, aided by some Firebirds turnovers, the home team clawed their way back in.
Lara Dunkley, just quietly going about her business with 19 goal assists in the first half. That’s as many as Moloney, Watson and Austin combined!
This corresponding match in round 1 saw an astonishing 161 penalties. At halftime today… just 48.
And just like that, Bakewell-Doran with her 5th gain of the night sees Firebirds restore their halftime lead of 4 goals.
