The Team Girls Cup — @SuperNetball’s pre-season competition — is slated to return next month after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19.
Melbourne are set to host the event, with coverage on the new home of Australian netball, @fox_netball.

How are Fever playing with the border as it is?
On a different note I’d love to know what contingency plans SSN has. WNBL shortened their season earlier this week.
Giants vs Lightning played yesterday in a pre season game. Lightning won by 3. It was a great game to watch, mostly because they didn’t implement the super shot.
Shooting stats were as follows
Koenen: 30/33
Batcheldor: 26/29
Laurie: 3/8Letherbarrow: 27/34
Dwyer: 16/20
Harten: 13/14Standouts for the Lightning were the Koenen/Batcheldor combo, some great shooter to shooter passes. Batcheldor shot the lights out, so many long bombs at such high accuracy. Annie Miller is crazy fast and fits in beautifully to the forward line. Shimmin looks in great shape and won heaps of ball through court. Cassidy ended up with some sort of foot injury in the last quarter, fingers crossed nothing serious.
For the Giants I was really impressed with their young shooters. Didn’t miss a beat when Harten took a short break. Harten really played as a playmaker and rarely went to post. Maddie Hay was a bit quiet, JLP and Parmy were everywhere as usual. Defensively I really liked what Moore and McDonnell did together so hopefully we see them as a combo more this year.

Wonder if the SS will be in place this season.
Weird to think they’ve played a pre season game a month out and not implemented the SSYes it will be.
Would love to hear any insights into the Vixens/Thunderbirds pre season match, only just now tuning in.
Feeding into the circle problematic for the Thunderbirds. Probably a combination of bad feeds as well as some poor positioning of a very new shooting combination (Austin/Dwan). But considering the circumstances, very impressed by Austin’s performance (3 super shots as well! Not sure if we’ll see Potgieter back in 2023)
Mannix is going hunting and coming up with some great tips and intercepts.
And in 2022… I still don’t like the super shot.
Some great hussle from the Thunderbirds defensive end in the second half of the 3rd quarter.
Horjus on at WA to start the 4th, definitely opens up the transition more. Dwan seems to be a bit off today in terms of shooting (from what I’ve watched of the match). Orr and McDonald haven’t been too impressive at C, I’m assuming the coaches are playing with combinations but would like to see Nankivell on (although she probably played the first half). Of course all these comments are in the context of their first pre-season game.
Overall, Thunderbirds could really push to finish in the middle of the ladder (possibly low Top 4) if they can get some combinations working well. A shame that Austin won’t be available on game days.
Nankivell and Potgeiter didn’t play all game. Weren’t even in their dresses.
Sterling and Dwan only played second half. Petty only played first half.
Vixens were relatively full strength. Only Eddy (and Austin) didn’t take the court. Tbirds played with 3 on the bench, think vixens had 5, but only played 4.Austin was very impressive. Would’ve shot at least 40 of the Tbirds goals against a decent defensive lineup.
Thunderbirds should have won that. Lots of fight to come down from 6-7 down twice to only stumble in the last minute or so.
Such a shame that Lucy Austin doesn’t have a contract. Hopefully for TBirds fans she isn’t snapped up elsewhere next year but I expect she will be.
Dwan moving to TBirds is an interesting one. Horjus has the GA bib. Not sure where Dwan fits in. Horjus is very good at WA but they need her at GA rather than pushing her there to play Dwan.
Garrett looks like she will continue on from her 2021.
I don’t think Nankivell played. I did miss parts but don’t recall seeing her and I enjoy watching her play. Williams was at C in the first half with McDonald at WA and Petty WD. Williams had Moloney’s measure IMO in the first half, Moloney didn’t play the second half. Will be exciting to see both Williams and Miller at Sunny Coast come through this year.
Vixens should abandon the Barkmeyer experiment. Not a shooting option at all and does nothing to pull a defender off her GS as they know she won’t shoot. To give away an offensive contact under the post so MJ’s goal doesn’t count :negative: Vixens will have a strong shooting trio when Austin is back though. Weston is in good form. No idea why Eddy didn’t play. Wasn’t Watson’s best game but her connection to MJ is still there and she releases the ball to her with confidence that Vixens didn’t have all last year.
Neither team were close to full straight. Vixens had Samason – Barkmeyer – Cransberg – Mundy on for majority of the last quarter until Simone decided she wanted to win and brought Watson and MJ back.

Who is the TBirds defensive TP?
It’s always good to see TPs in pre- season.
TBirds played Orr and Austin. Vixens played Barkmeyer, Lambden and Cransberg.
Chelsea Blackman and Molly Watson
