      Full time: Magpies 48-38

A stark difference between today’s game and yesterday’s game for Magpies. 48 is the highest score in the tournament so far and they were totally dominant. All of the Magpies starting 7 impressed today but Ward and Nelson in particular.

Nice to see Veve get the start in WD today. She was good yesterday.

Interested to see how Bakewell-Doran goes at GK.

          Wallam starting for firebirds!

Wallam is playing very well but FBs overall are moving the ball a lot better through court than yesterday. Lightning’s defensive pressure through court needs to lift, lack of hands over and contest.

              1/4 time: Firebirds 17-9

Great first quarter from the Firebirds. Lots of energy and purpose about everything they’re doing. And it’s taken just one quarter to show how criminal it was that Donnell Wallam wasn’t picked up by a team originally.

When is Tara Hinchliffe back? Shimmin is a step off the pace and not tight enough.

Batcheldor exposed a little today from a play making perspective. Lightning are a completely different team with the class of Wood but Miller as well has brought a spark.

FBs don’t look to have EUB today.

                  1/2 time: Firebirds 24-23

Good game. Lightning came back hard in the second quarter. Firebirds making too many errors in the midcourt. By comparison, Lightning very steady and really working themselves back into the game. Koenen with 11 goals for the quarter.

Unfortunately Batcheldor isn’t having a great day. She’ll probably come back with a vengeance next game though. Starting and combing off the bench are very different scenarios.

Stanton is back. Starting in the bench for Vixens. Vixens TP Emily Andrew is out due to covid isolation. Stanton has been training with her VNL club so should be fit. Watson and Weston aren’t starting against Swifts.

                        3/4 time: Firebirds 34-33

This has been possibly the highest quality and most exciting game that we’ve seen so far. It’s anyone’s game with a quarter to go. Firebirds have used all 12 of their players, Lightning 10. Wallam back on for the last Q.

Batcheldor also doesn’t have the advantage of being an unknown quantity against this Firebirds side. It will be interesting to see if she can shake of this game in time for the match against the Vixens later.

Lightning with a good run on early in the last Q and we go to a timeout.

                            Lightning 42-39

Good to see a close game. Defence from both teams needs to be much tighter.

                                Full time: Lightning 50-45

Good game! Firebirds started strongly but Lightning finished the better. Donnell Wallam was on fire at the start. It’s only to be expected she would go off the boil a bit, having not had much chance to train with the team before this.

Lambden with a deflection to start

The full court defense of these two teams is a step up on the last game. Both teams out hands over everything.
