After this weekend who is everyone’s starting 7 for each team
Wilson was outstanding in the games in Traralgon I thought and has just continued from there. So flexible as well.
Not a lot of defenders can play all 3 positions well but she does. TBirds defence is one of the best in the comp.I think Condren and Unie will pick up the spots left vacant from Pretorius and hinchcliffe in the interim
Yes I thought Wilson was really good.
I was very happy for T’Birds this weekend. Great to see Potgeiter back.
Aryang at WD was a very useful pest for Fever. Had my heart in my mouth in that last quarter watching all her pestiness.
@thunder123 I agree on Condren and Unie. Would love to see Maddie Hinchliffe there but unfortunately don’t think they’re looking for a midcourt player.
Was so nice to see Barkmeyer’s confidence this weekend. I wondered why she was selected last year but now I see. She can only get better!
this might be wishful thinking but I really hope they expand to squads of 12 for the season especially with Covid and there being some mid week games. This weekend showed plenty of talented training partners that are ready and deserve it
I think surely they’re going to have to use squads of 12.
re 12 in the squad – seems like a no brainer with the number of cases circulating in the community and the number of new cases each day in the thousands here in Melbourne and also in Sydney. And then there’s the loosening of restrictions, and sibling of omicron coming and the comp being played in cooler months.
Swifts were down to 9 by Day 2
I’m just wondering how indicative some of the form seen in preseason is for the season? I haven’t watched a lot of preseason stuff before, but was blown away by the T’birds. Obst seemed very willing to rotate the bench as well as move favourites out of certain positions, but would this have mainly been to see/test combinations, and is it likely to continue through the season?
Not only that, but the Giants look to be in a tough spot, I couldn’t really put my finger on what wasn’t clicking for them in what I watched. Also worrying that they had a team that would be close to their starting 7, do they still have hope for a strong season or not so much?I don’t think too much can be taken away from this preseason tournament for teams like Swifts and Giants.
Swifts we’re missing A LOT, both players and coaches. And it showed in the way they played. They looked very tired come the final game, and understandable so. Giants we’re missing two very key players in Hay/Brandley. Those two will make a big impact.I feel there’s question marks for Fever and Firebirds. Though Fever performed really well, I do feel having Chelsea Pitman in their lineup makes a difference. How is Dan going to include her in the 10?
Firebirds, do they make Wallam permanent?Magpies was a little bit disappointing for me. More so I was expecting a lot more from Garbin. I know it’s only preseason (and they have time to work on it), but she did not look her best at all. I’m wondering if this was a good move for her 🤷♂️
Vixens will now be the hunted. So I feel there’ll be a lot of pressure on them to perform. However I don’t think that pressure will phase them in any way.
I thought Tbirds were looking quite solid. Hopefully they can take that into the actual season.
I think this year is even harder to tell than usual because we don’t really know exactly who has been out with Covid, or how long it’s taking everyone to return to full fitness. There were a few players who didn’t seem 100% on the weekend. And a lot of teams have hardly spent much time together as a full group. Hopefully the next month will give those teams a chance to solidify their connections and work on fitness in time for the start of the season.
Did those who weren’t there have Covid or were they isolating as a close contact? I thought MJ’s absence was because of the latter.
