Obviously all I am about to say is very speculative given it’s been one pre-season match however…

I actually think the Horjus WA/Dwan GA combo has some potential.
Dwan struggled when she first came on but had I think Orr in C and Macdonald in WA so their combo was non-existent and clunky which I think Dwan struggled with.
When Horjus was in WA with Macdonald in C it really opened up the court and Dwan found more space. I think bring Nankivell in to C and that lineup could really have some real potential.
My hope is that Obst has finally realised we are better off with Petty out of the attacking third and even then I think Williams had more impact in WD so I’m looking forward to her getting some more court time.
Austin was fantastic for such a young player and I think will show enough this year to bump Potgeiter out and take the reigns in 2023 and beyond.

Weston and Eddy aren’t playing (neither is Austin either of course)

Nankivell and Potgeiter starting for TBirds today.

Weston was key for Vixens yesterday. Think Thunderbirds might get up today.

Feel TBirds missed a big opportunity to sign Lucy Austin. Horjus started WA today and with Wilson being strong at WD do they they really need both Petty and McDonald? Austin could have been a genuine momentum changer for them.

Great intercept by Lambden on circle edge. Loving seeing her back at this level. Have often said she just needs a chance and to be injury free.

This is very similar to yesterday. Vixens came out very strong (6-1) then TBirds make some great plays and Vixens have a coupe poor passes and it’s 11-11.

                  Wilson’s closing speed is impressive.

@tully I agree. Not just Wilson either, Williams been pretty effective at WD in the bits and pieces I’ve seen of her in the past year. I don’t think we needed both Petty and McDonald. Austin would’ve been a better signing maybe, she isn’t too bad from the supershot area either and is definitely the future. Missed opportunity in my opinion.

Thunderbirds are much more composed than Vixens. Horjus and Dwan always look in control. Nankivell is strong. Look to be playing their main team today.

Vixens get very easily flustered in attack. MJ and Mundy seem to panic. In saying that Mundy and Watson need more court time together. Watson more often than not pops on the 3rd second but Mundy has already looked away.

29-29 at HT thanks to super shot Samason. Thunderbirds lead for majority of the quarter till Rahni came on during the last 5 minutes.

@Netballcrazy1 yes Williams was good at WD yesterday as well. I’ve mainly seen her play C but her game easily translates there. Actually Elle McDonald mainly played WD when she first came into VNL and was playing in regional netball. Started playing more WA with Fury and Vixens so she could easily have provided cover for all 3 midcourt positions.

TBirds have so much great young talent. Probably the best group of TPs of any club. Key will be developing them and keeping them this time around. I’m confident Austin will make it and only time will tell at what club but hopefully Orr doesn’t slip through like say Abernathy did. Hopefully she gets another go today and at Team Girls cup to impress.

What a mess of a quarter by Vixens. Why are the Vixens changing their shooters so much.

Samason has missed the SS this quarter so hasn’t been able to pull it back for them like last quarter.

Not really liking Mundy at WD.

Well TBurds won this same match by 19 last year so at least Vixens have improved

Thunderbirds were up 6 but now up by 3 thanks to a Rahni SS. Vixens remind me of Giants in 2020 when they were so reliant on SS to stay in games.

I guess they still have Weston, Eddy and Austin to come in. Might start a campaign for Mundy to start at C over Moloney and a contract for Lambden in 2023. Actually Vixens should play Moloney and Mundy the other way around with Moloney in WD and Mundy C.

Dwan has been great for TBirds. Sterling and Wilson are outstanding.

                              Lucy Austin on :yahoo:

(Why am I cheering for this as a Vixens fan B-) )

Two SSs from MJ to even the score.

Then one by Rahni and one by Dwan….
