Mystics are dominating now! They’re just 5 minutes away from title number two.
Full time: Mystics 74-56
Congratulations Mystics. In the end, it was a dominant win. Try as they might, it just wasn’t Stars’ day today. Mystics ran away with a 20-11 last quarter and Grace Nweke scored 20/20 to finish the game with an incredible 70 goals!
Mystics win GF 74-56
Nweke 70/73
Well down to Mystics. Great win. Game was over end of the third quarter. There was no way Nawai cau cau and Temu were going to win a one on one jumping contest with Nweke. Would have been interesting if the nz league had that long shot that they have in the ssn. May have made the game a bit more interesting.
Would be great if they had a best of three series for the final. To be honest Rob Wright must have played a big part in the Mystics success. He seems to have found his happy place.
Don’t think Wills’ substitutions were very astute. Putting on Hume was not effective. Why take off one of the players of the season in Malesala for someone with a shaky shot.
Quite a few mystics must be in the running for Ferns. Will be interesting to see the selections.
@mcleod I absolutely agree re MSB. A defensive wall of her at WD, Heffernan in the middle and Burger at GD will help us go a long way to defending the NWC.
But how does she fit? Does she bump out one of her team mates in Karaka from the defensive end or Toeava from the midcourt? Or, does Jane Watson not make the trip because of an injury cloud?
Peta had an excellent game today, but I think Crampton’s class on the feed into Wilson, despite a losing effort might get her the sole WA bib.
After tonight’s game, my midcourt is:
Crampton, Gordon, Heffernan, MSB. Toeava as the reserve.@Kwkiwi Wills knew Malesala was tiring and making errors. Her shooting was fine, 17/21 in the end but they felt like they came at critical moments. She also had some turnovers as well.
I think Hume’s future is at WA. Her shot is too unreliable. If Crampton retires from the team, I would give her a crack at WA, knowing you still have MRB and Nathan there to push forward if needed.
Yes that’s the issue Weewood, if MSB goes, Toeava won’t unless reserve.
Based on that performance and the results I’d have Nweke and Toeava starting for the Ferns, over Crampton and Wilson. Why tinker with a winning formula. I don’t think Crampton did enough to earn the starting WA. Sokolich Beatson kept Crampton well in check.
Congratulations to the @northernmystics who are the @anzpremiership champions for 2023!
The Mystics beat the @starsnetballnz by 18 goals.
A fitting way for captain Sulu Fitzpatrick to finish her career. A true wahine ma.

No offence to the Stars defence circle, but they are not Australia or Jamaica.
Make no mistake it was a great performance by the Mystics, but some odd selections by Kiri Wills, Temu at GD to start was never going to work.
Grace was outstanding, but for the 2nd year in a row the Stars big names failed to fire. Crampton had a shocker totally outplayed by MSB, Mila R-B all at sea against a Fern in the making Tayla Earle.
Maia was a bit slow to move at times, and often moved the wrong way. -
