GK Kate BurleySteel REALLY struggling.
One good thing for Steel is that Burley has been really close to a lot of ball and should get more as the game goes on… unless Toeava comes on like she just has. Not looking good for Steel at the moment, Mystics defence is very well-drilled as to be expected from so much experience.
Steel need to pretty much forget about trying to stop Nweke and just try to attack ball out of the circle. Burley seems to be worrying too much about what Elliott is doing (or not doing) rather than focusing on her own game.
Half time Mystics 36 – Steel 18
Not sure I think WA is a good fit for Winders just yet…
Full time: Mystics 64-38.
Steel unable to score more than 10 goals in any quarter.
Absolutely loved the Mystics game and the coaching moves. Should make any change seamless throughout the season now. They had to stop, think about who they were now playing with and build on it. I wasn’t sure what to think of the new coach; but all signs so far are good.
Loved Jenny Woods comment about Irene moving to GA in her career and referring to her as a “horse cantering around the court” 😂The Northern Mystics have proven too strong in their opening match of the 2023 ANZ Premiership season, with a commanding win 64-38 over the Southern Steel in Auckland on Saturday night.
MVP: Phoenix Karaka

Just wondering apart from Fisher were steel missing any of their other contracted players? Or is it going to be a long and painful season for them?
If so I feel for Winders particularly who was looking for a fresh start.. 😣Selby-Rickit and Tui were both out as well, but they really shouldn’t have lost by as much as they did. And that was with Nweke on the bench for a quarter and Toeava on managed minutes due to illness.
That was rather awful from the Steel. Winders certainly isn’t the answer at WA.
Moving south to play a position not suited to her, isn’t going to help her Ferns channces.Winders is looking somewhat cursed at this point
