Kwkiwi, interesting you mention this re league abit rough. I could only watch smidgens of game during work and while I was disappointed for Magic, massive credit to Tactix. I was disappointed at more than a few shoves etc which surprised me. But I didn’t want to come off as sour grapes. I’m still not sold on Dunn or TP for that matter, both there presences just don’t smack me as having the Ferns honour. Anyhoo think it’ll be a Tactix/Mystics GF and it’d be fantastic for Tactix to win.

No I don’t think it’s all that rough. The only people that fell over last night, tripped over their own feet.
Kersten, Ekenasio, Poi. Plus Jane slipped on a bit of moisture on the court. Gave me a fright when she skidded.Poi is in outstanding form atm. It’s early days, but hoping she can keep this form for the remainder of the season.
I do wonder if Souness moving back to WA, will work against her for Ferns selection? She’s been decent in that position, I don’t think she’s been outstanding.@TB the likes of Poi, Gordon and Souness have always been in the “fringe ferns” (not sure if that term started here!) although in saying that Souness stood up at the Com.games
Must say the Rangiora venue used for the last 2 Tactix games looks very nice.
The usual Christchurch Arena was being used for a Food show, hence the reason they couldn’t play there.
Think they have 1 more game in Rangiora, it’s only 20-30min from Chch, a lot better then the Nelson venue that they used to use.@mcleod interesting you would not take Toeava. In the last 2 series, the only 2 wins we had against Diamonds was when she played those full games.
It can be argued that Weston and Brazil didn’t play in those games. But we also never got the opportunity to see how she would go with them there.
I’m not a Crampton fan. But her steady hand is needed. Toeava gives the X factor, plus her connection to Nweke is the best in the game. I think it’s vital to have both these players going to WC. Heffernan will be there.
That last position IMO will come down to Souness or Poi.Toeava didn’t get much game time at the January Quad series. Her game is just lob to Grace.
Defence wise offers nothing. Noel’s is very big on having people play more than 1 position.
Gina is the best WA for the Ferns, she will be at the WC.
I don’t even think Heffernan is a certain, her form is below average at the Steel, sure the team is poor but she needs to lift her game big time.I don’t agree that Toeava offers ‘nothing’ on defence. Most games she’ll get deflections or an intercept
Toeava’s a fast little pocket rocket, great connection with Grace
Bailey Mes was used at Wing Attack in some games at the last WC.
Personally the Ferns need 3 C options, 2 WA/C options and clearly Gina will be there and can only play WA,
and say 1 WD/C option, as Burger and Karaka will play at WD.To win the WC the Ferns will have to play the top 5 ranked countries (most Likely)
So to me taking just 2 C options doesn’t make sense, what happens if one of the C is injured in the 1st game.
Crampton and Toeava are not C options against Uganda or Malawi let alone Australia, Jamaica etc, etc.I think that’s pretty standard having 2 C options for a pinnacle event.
I’d be interested to know if any country would send 2 players only capable of playing WA.
I think it comes down to the make-up of the team. NZ has always (or generally) run with a swinging GD/WD backup option. For the 2015 WC team, we only had 3 middies (Langman, Crampton and Saunders) with Rore/Burger being used at WD and Mes as an option at WA.
For this team, I’d only be comfortable with either Toeava or Crampton at WA. If they were to only take one, I’d take Toeava – that’s just my personal preference cause of her connection with Nweke.
I remember when we had Anna Rowberry and Adine Wilson in the team. Both WA specialists. But would be still confident of one of them had to run at C, there was never a ? over if they were fit enough.
