Mvula on after Stythe’s block on Walmsley’s shot.
I swear nobody on this team is willing to play with Mvula. I just don’t understand why they’d bring her over to sit on the bench- at this point I’m starting to think they’re psyching her out and figuring out her game for NWC  ! Obviously that isn’t happening but it’s a very odd move.
A good comeback win for Mystics.
Was it the Stythe/Karaka switch or Metuarau running out of steam in the second half that did it for the Mystics?
Metuarau
1st Half – 14/14
2nd Half – 3/4Metuarau needing some higher fitness levels for sure, but an outstanding game from Styth!
Stythe is a future silver fern! Tiana ran out of steam showing why she’s a boarder line fern
Mvula 7/7 in 11 minutes; Walmsley 27/34 in 49 minutes. My maths says Mvula would be scoring at least as much as Walmsley, if not more. The same happened in the other game this weekend when Mvula was barely on.
Pulse are second bottom (aren’t they the 2022 Premiers?). Why wouldn’t you make changes.
I personally think the problem is less Walmsley vs Mvula and more so Metuarau’s work rate falls off a cliff in the second half.
She’s struggling to run out games and there doesn’t appear to be an alternative GA option for the Pulse.
WeWood, yes Metuarau’s falling work rate is a problem. But I just don’t get why Mvula is getting so little time on court.
Reminds me of how, a few years ago, the then T’Birds coach Dan Ryan left Bongiwe Msomi on the bench game after game. They were bottom of the ladder too and she’s a netty star.
Yes who would be the back up GA for the Pulse?
Mvula and Cardwell rotated a bit at Thunder didn’t they?
I like Stythe, she is quite athletic for a young tall defender and has more hops, literally, than Jury. When I think of great circle D I always think of Kopua, Harrison and De Bruin – all defenders that never gave up, had great leans while holding on to their raised foot and could jump while leaning. Stythe is already showing that she can lean and still get elevated. I can see her on the SF radar in the near future.
Moving her back to GK, her long time position, put more height up against Walmsley and that definitely made a difference.Final score was Mystics 56-51.
In the second half it was Mystics 32-22.
Pulse played yesterday whereas Mystics played on Saturday. I think if teams are going to play 2 games in a round, they should try to give both of them the same number of days recovery time.
