INBOX: Tactix defender Greer Sinclair has been ruled out for the remainder of the ANZ Premiership #netball season after injuring her foot in an accident at home.
Sinclair will be replaced by former Pulse player Paris Lokotui— Bridget Tunnicliffe (@bridgettunni) April 12, 2023
Oh no! Finally she gets her break and was doing so well. Paris will be a great substitute.
Bugger for Sinclair!
I haven’t got across the NNL, how has Lokotui been travelling?
The most intriguing thing for me was her leaving the Pulse after several years in that set-up.
@WeWood – by all means Lokotui is going very well. She returned quite early (March was her first game back, ten months after surgery and has been on both the Mystics and Tactix bench over the last couple of weeks but only minimal game time. Tactix must feel she is ready.
My understanding was she was not offered a contract for this season so was a free agent to find a region to take her on. Likely because twelve months or more is the usual return time from ACL which pretty much would have knocked her out of this season.
Very unfortunate for Sinclair. She was coming into some good form.
I wonder if they will push Malcolm back to WD with Poi and Petera at C/WA.The 4pm news today (radio) said the Stars are looking at calling up Anna Harrison again – not this weekend – but after that depending on defensive injuries. I’m guessing they’ve called up Rore for this weekend.
The Tactix were lucky to get Lokotui, she was basically on her way to the Mystics for 3 weeks to sit on their bench like she did the previous week. I know she is hoping to play against the Pulse because as was mentioned, she wasn’t offered a contract at the Pulse so she is quite motivated.
Maryann
Very unsure about this calling up of past players
Rore and then Harrison
What’s stopping all clubs from doing this?I think they can be called up for injury cover.
It’s a pity they don’t have a decent pool of strong shooters, that could help out Steel. Not a fan of this. Every time there are injuries, the call goes out to a retired international. What does that achieve for NZ netball? What’s wrong with using younger local talent?
@Ian – my thoughts exactly. My opinion is that Stars don’t seem to have a pool of players/up and coming players that they have the confidence in to make the leap in times of need. Surely after all this time they are developing talent and if not, why not? From the outset they always pulled in a retired player to Captain the team – then Maia took over.
But it’s not just the Stars.I do know that a couple of years ago the gap between NNL and ANZ players had increased substantially as far as ability goes and it was harder for players to make the leap/transition to ANZ level. However at least one ANZ coach had recognised this and was working on it for their squad and if they had then surely others had too.
Exactly TB re Steel
Ian and Maryann, it seems abit like a cop out.
Steel have suffered badly or is the choice there’s (clubs) not to pull in past shooter? I don’t know how it works.
Unsure what Tactix did when Jane was off, McLeod will remember.Tactix signed Kelera Nawai from Pulse whilst Watson was on mat leave. Nawai was originally a replacement for Rore when she was pregnant.
I think Steel’s problem is that their attacking end is pretty much new. They’re having to develop a new WA as well as a shooter. That’s always gonna be an uphill struggle (remember 2021 Vixens?).
Stars should be using their training partners, not those from the retirement home.
Yes they prob will have 2 circle D’s out injured, but so what. -
