Bloxham should target Parris Mason in 2024. I know THRSR is much loved in Steel country but that defence end needs an injection of fresh blood.
I’d be throwing money at a WA as well and hoping Fisher is raring to go from Game 1.
I think Gordon will be on the plane to NWC. Calling it now.
Not quite my original midcourt foursome of Crampton, Heffernan, Poi and Toeava.
Gordon off…had to be helped off as she couldn’t stand on her right leg…upper calf problem. Not sure if it’s just cramp or something more serious.
Gordon has gone off and hopefully it’s just cramp.
Steel circle defence need an injection of new blood. THRSR may be experienced but imo she is no longer fast and agile enough. Watching this game should have been on Walmsley more as Burley is simply not tall enough and one on one in the circle Walmsley is going to get it every time.
Just watched Gordon go off, I don’t think it’s cramp but hopefully not something more serious.

Pulse bench has just confirmed it’s cramp. That’s good.
Gordon is the most in form C currently. I think due to her injury last year, she never found her full stride to make the SF.
Congratulations to @PulseNetball GA on bringing up 100 national league games in tonight’s victory over @SteelNetball
Hard to believe she has reached the milestone and is only 22!

Netball NZ need to step in before next season and give Steel an extra allocation of say $50k to attract some new talent. Can’t have this situation happening again next season. Not good for the league.
Can’t expect a town like Invercargill of 50,000 people to be able to attract topline talent to come and play for them. They are up against the likes of Auckland and Wellington. Auckland’s population being 1.5m. Players are basically just going down there to get more court time. Either that or they allow two imports to play in the Steel team.
Normally a team wouldn’t be able to jump into second place by beating a team by 18+. But the Pulse have done it tonight. Will be interesting to see how this situation pans out down the track depending on who plays the Steel at which juncture of the season.
Agree on Gordon being included in the Silver Ferns WC team. She’s playing spectacularly. Great to watch.
Steel have reasonably deep pockets with the Invercargill Licensing Trust behind them don’t they?
Remember they used to have a starting seven of Fowler, TPSR, Crampton, Saunders, Frew, THRSR and Watson.
Six of that seven started out with the Steel (Sting in Frew and THRSR’s case!) and stuck around for 5+ years.
In this instance I think they’re backing their pathway (of course Autagavaia is from out of town), but there’s a real lack of depth shooting wise. As has been mentioned ad nauseam, wouldn’t it have been good to see Mvula get a run for the Steel.
For 2024, I don’t see the team changing too much..
Fisher, Georgia Heffernan, Tui
Christie, Kate Heffernan, Savai’inaea, Winders
Burley, one of the Fifita sisters?, Parris Mason (?)Fisher has undoubtedly been a loss, but all their WA options haven’t set the world alight. TBH Savai’inaea has performed the best, but I think Christie is a little star of the future to hang on to.
I think Steel would have to strengthen their circle defensive end significantly to be competitive. Burley was having no effect on the Pulse shooters. Also Winders doesn’t look that effective like she used to be. I thought there were some reckless plays by her in tonight’s game.
Don’t see why Steel should be given a hand out.
Tactix hasn’t has it? Magic didn’t last year.
Maybe they should’ve kept O’Donell
For so many years it seemed Steel did pretty ok with wins. Others didn’t.Steel franchise is wealthy, they don’t need a handout. They have decent players, but some look slow and bored.
I acknowledge that the Steel were great in the past, but that was then and this is now. if the licensing trust has so much money for netball why don’t they open their cheque book and attract some of the top players to come down? I don’t agree tHat this is just a blip year, it looks like a trend.
Btw don’t agree that the Steel look slow and bored, by any means. Their players and coach are putting in as much effort as any of the other teams out there.
