      Australian Netball Championships locked in

Opportunities for Australian netball talent are set to grow in 2023 with the addition of an eleventh team to compete in next month’s Australian Netball Championships.

The second edition of the open age championships will be contested from August 21 to 27 between eleven teams from state and territory Member Organisations and Suncorp Super Netball clubs.

Moreton Bay Council is set to host the tournament-style event at Morayfield Sports and Events Centre in Brisbane’s north, providing an opportunity for both local and interstate fans to experience the action across the week.

This 2023 line-up includes Netball NT’s representative team, the Territory Storm.

Does anyone know how Reilly Batcheldor’s knee rehab is going? She did her knee at ANC last year in the same game as Emma Walters. Walters is a TP for the Lightning team but Batcheldor is absent.

Kelly Singleton is playing for Lightning.

I feel like I remember seeing Batcheldor say her and the club decided to wait the full 12 months before returning to play so she’s probably opted out of ANC, especially with the back to back nature of the tournament

Fair enough. Interesting that she isn’t a TP like Walters though. Hope her rehab is going well.

Anybody know what’s up with Ruby Barkmeyer? She’s in a moonboot on her story and didn’t play for Boroondara Express in VNL today.

She was in a moon boot and on crutches at the Vixens awards. Been out for a few weeks now and won’t be playing ANC. Shame as she was having a cracker year for Express in VNL.

For anyone interested, Batcheldor out on IG that she is 11 months post op and has started contested work. Done a few sessions with ANC team.

Will be interesting to see if she gets a Lightning contract. If not I’d think other clubs would be keen and if she does then I’d think other clubs would be keen on Bell. Might be tight to keep them both.

Looks like NA is updating all the scores from each game… https://twitter.com/NetballAust

Thunderbirds defeated Lightning in the first game.

Gosh the fury team is young. At least 4 are under 19, Andrew, Walters and Liai are 20 or 20 this year and Caris and Moody are 21. Lily Graham is only 17. But such a beautiful shot.

Mundy, Andrew and Graham are actually all from the same rep club, ironically.

Maybe I should start a campaign for Andrew to get a vixen contract and Graham in as a TP?

If Swifts don’t give Gorman-Brown a contract I hope another club does. She is electric.

It was nice to see Singleton have a strong performance over a full game (although she did fade a bit) after her sporadic appearances during SSN. A lot of strong performances from shooters today alone as well, Australia has so much depth. And I can’t stop talking about the Cransbergs- I know Zoe is out of ANC with injury, but they’re just both so good!

If Watson does leave Vixens I’d love to see Jordan move back. I can’t see it though, she has moved her uni (medicine) to Perth and is very settled there now. Will surely get a Febwe contract next year as they really lacked midcourt and shooting change ups this year.
