I’m shocked we won!
I was in-and-out watching this game, as I’m at work. I feel like I helped the Ferns to win 🙂
Have you ever watched a game, and when you were watching your team was doing terrible. You go away for a little while, and when you come back they’re winning? That was this game for me today. So I decided not to watch the majority of the last quarter, and when I came back they were up by 2
Is there a quad series in January? Has that been announced?
Really looking forward to seeing Garbin play GS in SSN next year. The two years of GA has definitely grown her game. Increased variation on her circle entry and when she comes out nice vision and touch to her fellow shooter.
Tully in the huddle Watson said “see you guys in January”. So assumption from me, but given that’s when the Quad Series in normally held?
I believe the QUAD series will be in January which is when Taurua’s contract has been extended to, the reason given was so that the international season could be completed.
Graces’ movement was impressive however she can get her feet tied up with eachother at times lol
Ferns attack were literally doing everything not to develop a lead throughout the game wth? Toeava would’ve been perfect tonight and we would’ve won by a heck of a lot more goals than 3 had she been on court. Really hope to see her in January however the ferns coaching staff seem to not like any flare whatsoever! cough cough Tuivaiti.
Still not sold on the midcourt and it was evident tonight that they aren’t NZs no.1 midcourt. Bring in Toeava for god’s sake. With the other 3 middies being of course Heffernan and then Souness and Maddy. With Reulu-Buchannan being the reserve 5th middie.
J-L Price would have been all over Toeava, she knows how to play the NZ style. And if Noels is coach for the next 4 years, Toeava prob won’t make the Ferns again. She is also 30ys old next March, and I get the feeling Noels will develop young middies.
I think Aus have a issue at GA, as Austin a I don’t want to shoot at all outing, and Cara K wasn’t much better. You clearly didn’t watch con cup 2022 NZ leg mclead, didn’t you. Toeava would’ve carved up JLP again. Your acting as if JLP wasn’t all over Mila, what I’m saying is that Toeava would’ve done way better and silenced JLP. DMT has to take her to quad series. In fact Toeava was training with the ferns in Auckland before the 4th test today. Toeava will be there for the NWC 2027 don’t you worry. She will be 33 and so will Liz Watson. Burger will be 34. And for development, ANZ is where that happens frankly. Ash Brazil just played this World Cup at 33. We need to stop normalising players needing to retire because they aren’t in there 20’s anymore.
Toeava has been training with the Ferns since the squads were selected. She missed SF selection on two criteria, one being fitness and reaching the required fitness level is entirely up to her.
Maryann, what was the other reason?
I agree that Australia has a GA problem. Give it a year and Dwyer will have some experience under her belt, and hopefully soon we’ll see Dwan and Batcheldor, but that game showed how little preparation we had for Wood’s retirement.
Austin would not shoot and that meant Garbin was being doubled on… and they gave her the ball anyway? And they’ve picked up NZ’s habit of just dropping the ball, albeit only in the shooting circle.
Very frustrating performance for both teams’ supporters! But congrats to NZ, especially Burger and Jury on fantastic performances. Heffernan was also really solid and I liked what Souness bought, even if she can be expensive.
It worries me when Grace puts on any movements. In game 3 she did a similar movement to when she did her knee at WC, I held my breath for a bit. I was like “just stay under post” 🙂
I agree with @silverferns1 I would have Toeava (if she meets fitness requirements)in the team. I still believe she would make a massive difference. And she gives Nweke good ball. Nweke doesn’t have to do any unnecessary movements, cause the middies are struggling to get the ball to her. Toeava os the best feeder to her. And now that we have Walmsley too, it should still work in Toeava’s favour.
I’m not too worried about GA for Diamonds. Austin can do it. She has done it. Needs consistency. In saying that even today her work rate through court is immense. She was the play maker down there and gets out and contests the CP. when Koenen and Moloney were on Watson had to do everything by herself. It was ridiculous they left it for so long. If they wanted Koenen in Ga then why not try JLP in C or move Watson to C and have Austin in WA?
Anyway Austin in terms of craft is a long way ahead of the other Aussie options. Longer term Dwyer will get there. Such a sweet shot but has to work on her craft and work rate to offer what Austin does in that regard. Batcheldor will be back next year and will get to form a connection with Watson at SSN level.
With JLP and Aryang having WD covered I’d like to see Diamonds bring a more attacking midcourter in to that 4th spot than Moloney or Parmenter.
@TB Yes didn’t think about how Walmsley would push Toeavas’ case for selection!
Also noted that Bruce doesn’t play anywhere near as aggressive and dirty as she does when she plays in NZ. I think Marinkovich missed an opportunity to put Klau, Bruce, and Weston all on at the same time. Klau at GK (which was needed for height and to give Nweke something else to think about), Bruce at GD and Weston at WD for those extra big arms over and vision blocker to Nweke! NZ attack would’ve absolutely suffocated with that very tall experienced Aussie man-on trio, with JLP at centre. Scary thoughts and what ifs!
