Is Proud in the squad? If Hadley is out I wouldn’t mind seeing her get a go.

I believe Proud has had surgery, (knee?). Nothing serious by the sounds of it, just off season maintenance.

Proud (knee surgery) and RBD (ankle) are both unavailable.

With players out from injury, maybe Mundy? It may be too early but Rav came in early

Sunday certainly made an impact when she came on!

Seen some reports on social media, that Nweke might be ready to play in test 2.

As much as I want her back, I really hope they’re not rushing this. Plus I’d really like for Walmsley to back up her first outing. She needs time on court.

Just with Jane Watson… do you think she is being load managed due to that foot injury from ages ago? Might be why Kate Burley was brought over to travel with the team. Or may be she isn’t quite match fit, even if she is medically cleared to play? I remember the first few games after she came back from maternity leave, her timing just seemed a little off.

Also, when Nweke comes back in to the team, who do you take out? I would say Walmsley goes, and DNT will keep Wilson as a different style of shooter. Having said that, Wilson wasn’t that great in test 1, or in the TJ series… what do you guys think?

I would lose Tiana. Maia is hesitant on the shot but Tiana almost refuses. I think both of them are on borrowed time..

I think Maia should be dropped. I don’t rate Metaurua, but I think her skill set as a GA (if she gets used) is better than what Maia has to offer. She also has a connection with Walmsley, which may work in her favour.

Plus we really need to develop a legitimate GA. Ekenasio is not going to be around forever and she’s already carrying a heavy load. With Nweke, Walmsley and Wilson covering GS, we need depth at GA.

@TB wasn’t Metaurua a GS when got signed by Pulse?? but had to play GA because of Cat Latu?

I don’t think she’s the answer at GA. Technically it should be Hume or Mons but neither of them have played well at international level.

I wonder if the answer is Peta, I know there was a lot of talk about how she could only feed Grace. They obviously didn’t see the connection she had with Mes.

Surely Samason (if she pledges her allegiance to the Ferns) or Georgia Heffernan are the next cabs off the GA ranks (esp. if TPSR retires from the Ferns)?

Definitely lose Metaurua, wouldn’t T Nev have a field day there:) surely Samason is the answer to that GA position,

@Wewood I agree with Georgia Heffernan. We need a GA that has some speed and can work the circle. Her pairing with Fisher will hopefully prepare her with combining with either Nweke or Walmsley, if she was to make the Ferns.

Is Hume playing for Mystics next season?
I am a fan of hers, but I feel players like her and Metaurua play well against NZ teams. IMO their fitness (or lack of) would work against them against the top international teams.

I love Samason. You’ll struggle to find a bigger fan on here than me. But gosh surely you aren’t pinning your GA hopes on her? Samason is at best a swing player across GS / GA. Would be a very long way off being a starting GA internationally or fit enough for a full game. At least right now that is.

I think if everyone is fit then the best shooting lineup for Ferns is Nweke, Walmsley, Ekenasio and Samason. Samason can back up GA (or certainly play it in the rounds of a WC or CG) but NZ will still need to develop a young GA to replace Ekenasio in time. I liked what I saw of Heffernan in Fast 5 in the past and think she would fit that role well.

I’d be moving on from Wilson and Metaurua.

I’d like to see the Diamonds start the following team for Test 2. It’s arguably the lowest pressure test for them, as playing in NZL against Nweke will be a far bigger test.

                                  Garbin
                                  Dwyer
                                  Watson
                                  Price
                                  Moloney
                                  Weston
                                  Bruce

Aryang and Klau can be used for impact. Personally I think Price has been quite poor at WD internationally, she’s really transitioned into being a C at this point. She has that connection with Dwyer as well, who really needs to get some more pressured international exposure. Koenen looks exhausted and Austin deserves a break after all her work.
