At least Bruce isn’t KO:ing players like some others who were on court yesterday have done in previous games.
Who KO’d who? And if so, did it get pulled up?
The shove Bruce gave to Metaurua was right in front of the umpire, and not even an advantage was called. I have no problems with the physicality of the game, I have a problem when it’s not picked up.
Nweke got called, I think 3 or 4 times, when she was blocking the defender when the GA was shooting. She was literally just standing there, but gets pulled for contact. They do no different to what the Diamonds shooters do, and they never get called :unsure:When Diamonds have a holding shooter on they do get called for offensive contacts. I’m sure Garbin has picked up a few in the tests she has played. Australia’s circle game is so much more mobile than what NZ is playing at the moment so it makes sense that it is NZ that is more likely to pick up those calls when both players are competing so hard to hold their position.
I agree Bruce has been quite physical and I’m surprised she didn’t pick up a few more penalties, but I think if you look all over the court there is a lot of physicality. Burger was certainly very physical on Austin, although I have no complaints about it. Gordon also plays a very hard game.
Will be interesting to see if the next game is more strictly umpired than the last and whether there is a bit more whistle.

I’m not talking about the style of play. My gripe is when the GA is taking, let’s say a penalty shot, and the GS is blocking defender. I don’t recall seeing a Diamond shooter being pinned for contact. Yet Nweke and Walmsley got pinned for it a few times. They were really soft calls, if anything there should have been no call.
Diamonds attacking style is clearly outclassing/smarting/everything our NZ defenders. It’s hard to watch from a NZ perspective, but beautiful to watch from a general netball fan.
One last thing, I know I keep harping on it. Please bring Peta Toeava back! 🙂
TB I think al_ex might be referring to when Gordon toppled Hadley in Game 1 which only happened because Hadley had stopped moving because she heard the whistle and Gordon unfortunately had nowhere else to land (and can’t stop herself mid air)
Interesting. I can imagine it has been hard watching from an NZ perspective. I feel like the way they are playing they aren’t that far off a win, in part because I don’t think Australia have a solid plan B at GA without Austin (now Wood is retired). I think Dwyer has a bright future, but I think she isn’t quite at this level yet.
I remember on the forum a few years ago there was a lot of discussion about how there were a lot less offensive contact calls in the NZ domestic competition and that there was a need for shooters to adjust for international games. I haven’t been able to watch the NZ comp much in the last two years so I am unsure if this is still the case? Walmsley in particular is very green and Bruce/Klau/Weston are experienced And wiley international defenders so perhaps it is drawing the umpires attention and there is a need to adjust, even if it might seem soft.
I have no doubt a fully fit Nweke, would have made the 1st 2 games very close. But I’m worried for Ekenasio she looked shattered last night.

Kelly girl! please put your other arm up to prevent Kiera Austin from coming underneath you to prevent you from leaning! Would love to see Jane paired with you at GD and Karin back at WD with Kate at C with her height since there’s no fluidity on attack. At least Kate won’t be smothered and can be actually seen when driving on attack. Quad series Jane and Kelly worked great considering it was Janes first time back!
Game day in Invercargill for game three of the Constellation Cup against Australia at 7.30pm tonight.
