If Ferns don’t win gold at WC, then DNT needs to go. I’m sorry, but it should be unacceptable to lose this many games.
The two times we’ve beaten Aus, Toeava played a big part in both wins. Why are we not building on those performances? Why is she persisting on using everyone else, but giving her minimal court time?
@TB i mean that is hard, who would you replace her with? It was in the news recently her contract is up in November of 2023, im a big DNT fan and it seems all her players, past and present have immense respect for her. Theyve tried new coaches before and they seem to lack experience and enthusiasm and it ends in disaster
@RMB I’ve been a massive fan of DNT. But as of late (probably starting from the CWGs semi) her decision making has been very questionable. I personally think she over experiments, some times tries to be too tactical. I also think she gets off scot-free when they lose, something I hate! I feel to be great, you should be held accountable.
I have no idea who would replace her as head coach. Maybe YMD?I think she’s selected the right team. Crampton is a fantastic WA, she’s just not the strongest (or has the best connection).
Anyways, I understand it’s way easier to be a specialised “couch-coach” (referring to myself 😊). I’m just hoping we get good at WC, so I can eat my words.
Yet again, some bizarre umpire calls from Burgess and Kemp. Unlikely to have affected the final outcome but bad calls affect the momentum of the game and also player performance, albeit momentarily. The umpires need to be paid so that they can develop their umpiring.
Ferns were disappointing in the second half. Nweke looked tired in the third quarter – she played every minute of all 4 games right? Also after taking all those hits from Klau and Bruce all game, it’s understandable. Ekenasio was a bit flat this game, though she got in to it in the 4th quarter. Heffernan looked tired too. Karaka and Watson didn’t look their best today, in terms of speed, footwork and timing. They need more time together to gel after their maternity leave at different times. Also, Jury tends to put Wood off her shot, so would have our get there in place of Watson. Burger was good in patches but think her and Watson need to get their match fitness back. Crampton was about the only one who was fairly consistent. The changes needed to come earlier in the third quarter with the option of bringing some of these players back.
Klau and Bruce looked to be ineffective but they really ground the ferns attackers down. Brazill not yet at her best after her recent gastro bout. Hadley didn’t do much wrong but also was unnoticeable, would have tried Moloney or Price in her place. Koenan and Wood were at their best.
@TB also massive fan of DNT here, hell the day she writes a book im camping outside a whitcholls i kid you not
I know where youre coming from the ferns have bet the aussies before, we saw that in the 1st 2 x con games… Maybe because of her respect she does get away with alot more, or maybe because its her past successes, ANZ, australia and internationally?
YMD has signed with Fiji last i read, does it serve as any benefit to have a coach that hasnt been a silver fern either?
@tasman they do rely heavily to much on Nweke and Ekeansio wasnt a very strong GA in this series. Wilson folds a bit under pressure saw that in com. games and ANZ final hence i guess thats why she spend most of the time on the bench. Watson and Karaka were way to quiet compared to the roses game.
Heffernan and Nweke did look tired hopefully their awards gave them some energy :yahoo:
How many games does a WC have? 8 ish? do you play your other players for some of the easier games as such?
Is that the actual venue for the world cup? It seems a bit small, but maybe it’s bigger than it looks on TV?
These would be the squads I would take for the World Cup.
England:
Cardwell, Housby, Drakeford-Lewis, Fisher/Tchine
Clarke, Metcalf, Allison, Pitman/Mcdonald
Mentor, Fadoju, Guscoth, WilliamsAustralia:
Wood, Koenen, Austin, Bueta/Garbin
Watson, Hadley, Brazil, Moloney
Bruce, Weston, Klau, AryangNew Zealand:
Nweke, Ekanasio, Selby-Ricket, Wilson/Mes
Heffernan, Crampton, Toeava, Souness
Watson, Burger, Karaka, Fitzpatrick/JuryPressure on Diamonds for World Cup as New Zealand discover a gem in Grace Nweke
Yeah DNT made changes in games when she shouldn’t have and didn’t make changes when she needed to. I like what she brings as a coach but like others have been more ??? against her more recently. But I too would like to eat my words come NWC.
Not sure who said it a while back on a feed about International games getting tiring to watch. I’m kinda in the same base as I think we see too much international netball nowadays. Yes it’s great to spread and develop the game but used to be more exciting come the main events and the teams hadn’t played each other a million times that year or the lead up year.
In terms of maybe YMD being the next SF coach coming up idk if the board would go that direction, would she want to implement a man on man defence?? Which I would had to see the SF try and go down that route again.
I think most of the SF had pretty average games by their own standards but with more match play through another season of netball they should be fine.
Still big question for after NWC is who is the SF next GA. If Ekenasio retires and TPSR who’s the next one up…. def not Wilson but then who??

One notable thing from the Quad Series was the quarter to quarter consistency from Australia. There was little difference between their best quarter and their worst. Take a look at these numbers…
14, 17, 17, 13, 13, 15, 16, 15, 18, 17, 16, 14, 15, 15, 14, 12
