I’m finding it hard to tip a winner for this game. Maybe the Giants not having Hay tips the scale slightly in Lightning’s favour.
Dehaney having a blinder so far against Letherbarrow. Giants looking a bit messy up front without Hay, and giving away a lot of defensive penalties.
Lightning on top early. Up 10-5 as we go to a timeout. Dehaney and Wood in the thick of the action so far.
1/4 time: Lightning 16-13
The timeout worked for Giants as they came back out charged up and hit the front, before Lightning scored the last 4. Dehaney has 3 gains for Lightning, and Price 6 assists for Giants.
This is tremendous from Lightning. Up 28-17, just dominating, and the play is so exciting from them. Steph Wood and Kadie-Ann Dehaney are putting on a clinic.
Connection between Wood and Koenen is beautiful. Miller also playing very well in WA against Parmenter.
Dwyer isn’t coping well with the pressure on the take from Pretorius.
Oooof, that contact differential, 30-9 at half time. Not great.
Another year, another game of Giants with high penalties. 33 in a half!! I get that they have to contest, but it isn’t allowing them to build pressure on their opponent.
Loving Dehaney – Pretorius out front in GD is allowing her to have a crack at almost everything.
Giants are a shambles, Parmenter clearly off the pace, Price working virtually solo, Leather arrow is accurate but v predictable, and Dwyer struggling with Pretorius, not looking good
1/2 time: Lightning 32-22
A 16-9 quarter for Lightning and they extend their lead to 10. Some sobering stats for Giants. Turnovers are 13-6 against them and penalties 33-12!
Lightning has had 38 attempts to 22.
Brilliant by Lightning thus far very controlled. Would like to see their midcourt under more pressure just to see how they respond and adapt.
Some very concerning signs for Giants. Look super shots may well get them back in this but they have 30 contact penalties to 9. I know they are a high contact team but they desperately need to clean that up. Sure Hay and Harten aren’t there but they aren’t going to fix the Giants’ defensive woes.
Just checked the draw and they have Fever next week. At least it’s in Sydney.
Brandley has 9 contacts so far. On track to push Bruce who had 19 last night.
The two Amys have swapped positions in this quarter – Parmenter to WA, Sligar to WD. Lightning currently up 41-28 halfway through the 3rd Q and playing some terrific netball.
