Changes in players and positions galore….
Cardwell, Dwan, Horjus, Williams, Wilson, Garrett and Sterling.
Oh dear, if this game is anything to go by I’m not sure if the Tbirds are as improved as some had hoped.
Firebirds are doing as I expected they would. Their top line is very strong the question is how things will go if it doesn’t work and they need to use their bench.
TBirds attack is a shambles.
So far this round has definitely showed pre season results mean…. nothing.
Simpson is having a cracker. Completely on top of Horjus.
An exciting first Q ends with Firebirds leading 17-15. Great battle between Wallam and Sterling. Shamera has 3 gains, but Donnell has 14/15 and 2 rebounds.
Better line up for the T’Birds. They won that quarter by 1.
I wondered what role Dwan would play in this team but turns out she is the best GA option and should be starting. They don’t seem to have an alternative WA to Horjus so she has to stay there and Cardwell looks much stronger at GS. Shame for Austin.
I know petty is the captain but they are much stronger without her.
Now what do firebirds do? How do they change momentum? Not much on the bench.
1/2 time: Firebirds 28-27
Anyone’s game. Firebirds got out to a lead of 8, but Tbirds fought back well and go in just 1 goal down. Sterling has 5 gains, Kamo 4. Lara Dunkley was rather surprisingly replaced when she had the highest NNP in the Firebirds team.
Do Williams and Nankerville play WA?
This arena is great for netball. Games here always seem to be exciting, frantic and a bit chaotic. The crowd is close, loud, and they get right into the game.
Nankivell can play WA. I think Williams can too but haven’t seen her there as much?
You can tell Stower is not used to playing a full game at this level. A bit of poor decision making creeping in. I wonder if Dunkley is off for injury management? Firebirds miss her feeding atm.
Williams played more WD at local level so probably C WD are her preferred but I’m sure she could if she was put there
Three Jamaicans as player of the match so far this weekend and we may be headed for number four! Shamera Sterling currently sitting on 8 gains and 8 deflections and it’s not even 3/4 time. 37-37 with 2 minutes left.
