Full time: firebirds 68-50
Firebirds come away with a comprehensive victory. They won the last Q 24-12. Remi Kamo a well deserved POTM with 9 gains, 5 intercepts, 5 deflections. Presentation now to April Brandley who played well in game 150.
In First Nations Round, Donnell Wallam finished with 44/46 from just 38 minutes, including an incredible 24/25 in the last quarter!
As a giants fan I am frustrated with the way the bench has been utilized the last 2 years the Giants have the lowest rotation rate for bench players out of all the teams. Why wasn’t Letherbarrow brought on sooner, Joe was less mobile and tiring. We have a talented shooter wasted on the bench. Give her a proper go each week to improve and polish her skill set.
frustrated supporter.Congratulations to Giants Netball defender April Brandley on notching 150 National League matches.

Great to see Sam Wallace running, dodging, changing direction on her Instagram story.
Maybe we should be like the Swifts and promote international and South Australian players over NSW players so we have more depth on the bench. It is easy to have depth if you select international players. The Swifts only have 4 NSW players compared to 9 for the Giants.
It shouldnât matter where the players come from, if you are good enough to play in the SSN you deserve a spot.
Iâm sick of all the import bashing. Everyone is being selfish in my opinion, some of these talented âimportsâ deserve to be here and they canât show off their talent in their home counties because they donât have the funding or a league for that matter.
I want to see the best athletes play each week, not give a mediocre Australian a shot just because sheâs Australian!!
Letâs help the world game.Itâs also important to remember that the majority of NSW talent Giants have was stolen from Swifts pathways. Of the 8 NSW pathway players Giants have now (JLP is a kiwi product), the only ones who werenât taken directly from Swifts or where the Swifts werenât as interested in them are Hay, Sligar, Brandley and McDonell. Letherbarrow, Dwyer, Parmenter and Moore were all established in the pathway before being poached.
As to the games, great to see the Swifts have such a field day in defence. Fraser is such an excellent player, itâs great to see her get more opportunity. It would have been good to see the Swifts push home the last quarter, but itâs unlikely percentage will play such a big role for them this year. Mundy needs to be starting, and I think will be going forward. If Moloney is kept on court at WD I wonder if Eddy might look to the 8th team next year, especially if it remains in Victoria. With Brazillâs retirement there is an opening.
Such a disappointing performance from the Giants. I think they should have started with Letherbarrow and brought Harten on to finish the game rather than visa versa. Emily Moore has been a revelation for the Firebirds, Iâm shocked how quickly sheâs established herself as an SSN starter. Would love to see her share the circle with Bueta.
I think saying they were stolen or poached is a bit of a stretch. Moore moved because
she wanted more court time. It is well known that Dwyer and Letherbarrow switched from the Swifts Academy (not team) to the Giants Academy because they could see the writing on the wall with Akle. It is fine to have imports and they are good for the game but you need to balance that with developing NSW players. The Swifts just donât do it well. Why would she bring Allie Smith in over a NSW player or Katrina Rore in as a replacement player. Itâs ridiculousFever have 4 WA players. The rest are import or from other states (I think predominantly from Vic).
@CM Akle won them 2 titles by doing what you said. She could be well and truly in for a third title.
She is a very smart coach. As soon as Romelda came available, she wasted no time and snatched her up. With Wallace down, had they not got Romelda, I donât think theyâd be in the position theyâre in right now!
I think Netball NSW would disagree with you. They provide funding to both the Giants and Swifts. They want some return on their investment. Rob Wright was told he was bringing in too many players from other states when he coached the Swifts. I agree with you re the imports. I love them and think they are good for the game but the balance has to be right
Sorry, I meant the part where she brought in players over NSW players eg Katrina Rore.
My point is, whether the players are imports or from other states, she has won 2 titles. If they were coming last (or outside the top 4) then questions would surely be asked on how sheâs recruiting.
The Collingwood game was the only SSN game I have seen this year. It was really sad to see Sophie Garbin shoot airball after airball. Reminded me of drops in form that Mes and Wilson had in the ANZP, although those players were able to play to form within the season eventually.
