A fast entertaining first quarter ends with a Cara Koenen goal right on the buzzer. Most of the stats going Lightning’s way so far… more gains, less turnovers, less penalties.
Lightning up 24-19 as we have a timeout. Mahalia Cassidy having a ripper game so far at centre.
Hannah Petty now on for Tayla Williams and Maisie Nankivell on at WD. Wilson moves to GD. Dehaney earlier came on for Ervin.
Lightning 27-22
1/2 time: Lightning 29-24
Just purely on the game so far, if you had no idea of ladder positions, you would think Lightning was the team placed 2nd. There’s still a half to go though.
In just 7 mins on court, Hannah Petty has Tbirds’ highest NNP score.
So glad to see Cassidy back in C- she isn’t really a natural WD and she’s flourishing in her preferred position. Petty has been clinical in attack (in her half a quarter) and Pretorius is having all sorts of impact.
Stacey M will be enjoying seeing Koenen and Wood work so effectively against Sterling and Wilson.
Thunderbird defensive end has no answers. Koenan owns that third at the moment.
Another issue being that Dwan can’t find Cardwell. Her passes keep failing either too short or way too far. The connection isn’t there at the moment.
Edit: another wayward pass, I would take Dwan off can give her some time to sit back and watch.
Dwan to WA… what is going on.
The Thunderbirds remind me of my U/13 team… someone has to tell them to make smarter passing choices.

Time out. Lightning’s lead growing. Steph Wood nailed a super shot and now they lead 40-31
Lightning has brought up 42 goals. That was their entire score when these two teams met in round 3!
The commentator did not just say Kiera Austin 🤦🏻♀️
