Full time: Vixens 64-55
There it is. Vixens just a bit too good, and they win the last Melbourne Derby. POTM is Kiera Austin who had 19 goals, 16 assists & 3 gains.
Now there’s tears from Nicole Richardson and Vixens make a presentation to Geva & Ash.
So if TBirds lose to Swifts and Vixens beat Giants the Vixens could get up to 3rd? Shows how much TBirds have fallen away as Vixens have been kind of ordinary.
The introduction of Hannah Mundy certainly provided a spark for Vixens. When she came on, they were trailing by 8. That would appear to be their number 1 midcourt combo (Mundy, Watson, Moloney) from here on.
I don’t think the umpire down that end (Justin Barnes) saw Kiera was in that much trouble as he let play go on and it was the reserve umpire (Josh Bowring) who called time after the goal. I like Justin as an umpire but I think he struggled today with the physicality.
It was Vixens medical staff who alerted reserve umpire to Kiera. Jovics injury was to wrist.
I think the issue with the Thunderbirds is they started strong at the start of the season and that’s because they believe in themselves. I think that it’s because of Cardwell being injected into the squad. I think the novelty has warn off.
When Cardwell lifts they lift and they tend to do that in the last quarter unfortunately.Cardwell needs to be strong on the take and demand the ball, none of this falling over crap, if she can assert her dominance from the first whistle they will believe again and get form back.
Diamonds drama- apparently players were supposed to receive calls today but didn’t. NA wants the CPA signed and are withholding selection news until this is done! Insane.
The story is on Code sports and you need a membership but the first two paragraphs have the gist of it.- This reply was modified 1 year, 11 months ago by StatsNerd21.
The article says that the players association knew about this before today.
Both parties are responsible. Everyone seems happy to blame NA for everything and clearly they aren’t faultless but the players association needs to take responsibility and step up as well.
I wonder if it’s an insurance issue? In rugby league Marty Taupau played at the World Cup last year unsigned by any club so had to meet his own insurance requirements.
Below is a quote from the fox sports article:
“It’s understood the ANPA was blindsided by Netball Australia seeking to link the signing of the CPA to the squad announcement. Netball Australia contends the union and players always knew.”
So someone’s lying.
You could be right Tully, that it is related to insurance but regardless this has taken too long and will affect squad players. Given NAs track record on not consulting players (eg the 2 point shot) it is, unfortunately, all too easy to believe they bear most of the responsibility for another mess.
Could it be the players associations demands were unrealistic? Not taking NA side but what if they wanted a huge pay increase that’s impossible for NA to meet? With only a 300k profit there isn’t much room for a huge pay increase.
It must be hard being an Australian netball supporter. Everything seems to be left to the absolute last moment. You’d think the connections with NRL and ARL they would have learnt something about the administrative side of things. These player agreements should be signed in advance surely (ie this one should have been done and dusted in January this year rather than days out from a World Cup announcement). It’s so disappointing, you lot have the best completion, best players but the administration side just can’t deal with it.
Yeah, everyone seems to be just assuming this is all NA’s fault. And I’m not so sure.
Is there a NS team of the round? I feel like it would be super different to the NNP team and I’m interested!
Not yet. I voted. But it hasn’t been posted yet.
