The score, time and centre pass management is FUNDAMENTAL to our game.
This is bitterly disappointing. https://t.co/uGL8K9LHPG

I’m just wondering who can tell the umpires that the centre pass is incorrect? I know I read somewhere that the magpies coach was trying to tell them and also apparently Sophie Garbin. Not to cause controversy do you think either of the centres (jovic or watson) knew? I realise in the heat of the game mistakes are made. I would like to know who is allowed to approach the umpires.
Molly Jovic was also pleading and calling time to check it. As a possible taker of the centre pass she should have been listened to yes?

I always thought when there’s a dispute with the C pass, the umpire calls time and checks with the bench?
Or the bench signals out to the umpire 🤷♂️It was just one big stuff up.
I think this just shows we need a review system in place for clubs to make appeals regarding umpire decisions that have an obvious effect on the match result. Similarly, we probably need a policy regarding what power can be exercised when it has been identified that these types of mistakes have been made.
I agree with Cath Cox comments, the game should be deemed a draw.
I didn’t watch the game in real time. I read the comments on here and social media, and knew it was bad. But then when I watched the game, that’s really bad! I know mistakes happen, but with so much resources available to the umpires over C passes (bench, scoreboard etc) they really have NO excuse for this stuff up.I’ve always been in the vote of once the final whistle has gone, the result is the result.
However I would make an exception for this case. Imagine if this was a finals or playing off to make the final 4?This also brings a whole new meaning to “play to the whistle”. It should be “umpire to the rules” 🤦♂️
The whole thing leaves a bitter taste in my mouth and I think changes and safeguards need to occur to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
But changing the result would open up a huge can of worms. Other umpire errors or decisions influence game results all the time, but sometimes in less obvious ways. Missed contacts, missed offsides, missed obstructions, not calling for hold time when players are slow to return the ball… all things that should be called within the rules but don’t.
I agree @D-fencr
But I do think this is an isolated situation. I have never heard of this happening before at this level. And TBH I don’t think it would ever happen again.Had this happened during the first 3 qtrs, I would put this down in the “opening can of worms” or general umpire errors. But for this to happen at the end of the fourth quarter when the game is tied, that’s a hard pill to swallow.
On the flip side, I do wonder if anything would have been said had Kumwenda missed the super shot?
Either way it’s still really bad! Also, what if that Centre pass was turned over and Collingwood had scored and went on to win? Same error – should it still be a draw?
Was there an inquiry when there were two consecutive Centre passes in Round six of 2021? If so, whaT changed as a result? (Also a game won by Vixens with a shot after the final whistle)
Has the SSN decision to penalize players delaying the return of the ball to the Centre this season resulted in too little time to notice the wrong Centre has the ball?
An umpire making an error on a Centre pass is rare – but still happens several times a season. Both umpires being wrong on the same Centre pass is even rarer – there have been over 10,000 Centre passes correctly called since it last happened in SSN. Should we slow down all Centre passes, check with more people each time to prevent such a rare (but entirely predictable) error? It was a major error (after all, it seems to have wiped out a seven goal lead) but need to look at the overall system to see what would reduce the likelihood of such errors, what would catch them before they reached the point of being irreversible, and what other consequences would such changes to the system have.
Has the SSN decision to penalize players delaying the return of the ball to the Centre this season resulted in too little time to notice the wrong Centre has the ball?
That is a very good point and something I hadn’t considered as an influence. Agree with your post generally, too.
