3/4 time and there’s just 1 in it. Firebirds up 58-57. Only 22 turnovers between both sides. Without super shots, Firebirds would be up by 7, but Housby’s sharp shooting has kept Swifts in this. Can Firebirds hold on or will the home crowd get Swifts home.
Swifts on the charge. FIVE straight goals to lead 63-60.
Swifts win it 74-71. Hugs all round for Romelda!
A good quality game and a strong finish for Swifts. Maddy Proud a well deserved POTM, but Helen Housby must have gone VERY close. Donnell Wallam scored 55 goals in the first 3 qtrs but only 5 in the last.
The Swifts would’ve had a lower score without super shots- however the Firebirds really faded in that last quarter while Swifts were quite consistent throughout. Definitely recommend that to anyone who didn’t have time to watch it!
Lovely presentation going on now for Romelda. Gabi Simpson presenting her with flowers. Romelda’s a bit overcome by it all.
Beautiful presentation and Romelda deserves it for everything she’s given to the game, lovely appearance by baby Gianna too!
1/4 time: Tbirds 16-12
At one stage of the quarter, Lightning led 11-8. Then we went into the power 5 and Tbirds went on an 8-1 run to end the Q. Both defences doing well. Certainly, Lightning struggling more in attack this week than the first 2 rounds.
Shannon Eagland has come on at WD for Laura Scherian, with Mahalia Cassidy going to C.
Tbirds 17-13
I feel like Matilda Garrett is really out to prove herself. I’m sure it’s easy to be overlooked when you’ve got Shamera and Latanya in your positions!
I always feel for Garrett when people refer to the Tbirds defence as the “Jamaican defence”, when she’s an integral (but often forgotten) part of it. Her tagging style of play combines nicely with Stirling and Wilson.
1/2 time: Tbirds 34-22
Tbirds got right on top in that Q. This looks like the form of a finals team, no question. Defence is working well, Tayla Williams having another tremendous game at C, and Eleanor Cardwell is making it look easy. Lightning in trouble.
3/4 time and Tbirds with the game well in hand 50-33 after another strong quarter. Their starting 7 has been unchanged so far, while Lightning has made several changes looking for an answer, all to no avail. Now Bell comes on at GS and Wood moves to WA.
