I’m impressed that Koenen is still playing pretty well when she looks gassed. I wonder how long Marinkovich will wait to bring Dwyer on.

Donnell on fire. Actually really enjoying the combo with Koenen at GA, amusing to watch her sweep the circle.

            1/4 time: AUS 22-11

            Wallam 15/18 (83%)
            Koenen 7/7 (100%)

            Venter 6/7 (86%)
            Maseko 5/5 (100%)

Just far too many turnovers against the Proteas so far (10!). It’s cruelling their chances of being competitive. Diamonds scored 7 of the last 8 goals as they capitalised.

Smith came on for SA at GD. Pretorius moved to WD to replace Strydom.

I like how Koenen manages to end up pretty close to the post thanks to her impressive split.

I always thought Garbin and Koenen were the correct choices over Wallam, but I might be changing my mind with this series. Her movement and positioning has improved from last year, and she’s been combining very nicely with Koenen. I hope she gets to play at the next Quad Series, at least to see how she fares against some tougher defence.

This has been a dominant second quarter so far for Australia. They lead by 20 now!

I think Garbin was the right choice for the WC, it’s just an embarrassment of riches for Australia. I don’t think I would have been disappointed to see Wallam there either.

But I agree, would like to see Wallam get the chance to play against NZ.

                      1/2 time: AUS 42-22

                      Wallam 26/30 (87%)
                      Koenen 16/16 (100%)

                      Venter 15/16 (94%)
                      Maseko 7/8 (88%)

Another dominant Q for Australia. The Proteas struggling in the attacking third, often resorting to loopy passes cross court which are being snapped up by Bruce (5 gains).

Mass changes for Australia in the third quarter as all the bench players get a run. The lineups now are:

                        GS Garbin
                        GA Dwyer
                        WA Watson
                        C Price
                        WD Parmenter
                        GD Garrett
                        GK Klau

                        GS Venter
                        GA Maseko
                        WA Msomi
                        C Nketsa
                        WD Pretorius
                        GD Smith
                        GK Maweni

                        AUS leads 50-26

Jamie van Wyk now comes on at GD for Maweni. Smith moves to GK.

AUS leads by 26 halfway through the 3rd Q.

                            3/4 time: AUS 57-36

                            Garbin 11/11 (100%)
                            Dwyer 4/5 (80%)

                            Venter 27/30 (90%)
                            Maseko 9/10 (90%)

Well, that was better from the Proteas. After the lead got out to 26, SA fought back and turned it into a very even quarter with the Diamonds just winning it by 1.

SA has started this last Q very well! They’ve got the lead down to 17 goals now.

That’s full time. The Diamonds win it 77-50. Some good signs once again for SA, but Australia just too strong.

Unsurprisingly, Liz Watson is POTM. She had 31 assists and 27 CPRs.

The World Champion Diamonds finish the year with a test record of 16 wins and 3 losses.

Venter the Sth Africa GS would have been my player of the match.
