Day 6.
Group F has a break today, but we have five matches from Groups E & G including the crucial game between the Proteas and Silver Ferns…
9am – ???????? Zim v Sing ????????
11am – ???????????????????????????? Wales v Uganda ????????
4pm – ???????? Jam v T&T ????????
6pm – ???????? RSA v NZ ????????
8pm – ???????? Sri Lanka v Barb ????????— Netball Scoop (@NetballScoop) August 2, 2023
Singapore will be rueing a poor start, 19-6 in the first quarter but only down by 10 since. With 9 minutes to go, Kwangwa and Mushore with 15 gains between them for Zimbabwe and Mayo has 34 assists, though has been expensive with 6 turnovers. Great effort from Jamie Lim with 4 intercepts and the same number of penalties.
Full time: Zimbabwe 68 v Singapore 40
A strong win for the Gems, set up by a blistering opening Q (19-6). Singapore never quite recovered from that, although they lifted in the 2nd & 3rd Qs. Elizabeth Mushore had 11 possession gains and Nalani Makunde scored 47/50.
Two talented young goal keepers in Elizabeth Mushore and Jamie Lim on show in that game.
Full time: Uganda 73 v Wales 56
Uganda made some changes with the game well in hand, which allowed Wales to draw the last Q. For Uganda, Mary Cholhok was as usual a great target, while WD Shaffie Nalwanja was adjudged MVP. For Wales, Georgia Rowe scored 53/54.
High scoring match, Uganda finished with 95% accuracy and Wales with 90%.
I have a feeling Uganda will be able to beat SA once again. Are they the new worlds 5th?

Ahead of their clash with NZ, Jamaica would have been glad to give some of their stars some rest in this one. They always had the match well in hand with 6 gains from Kadie-Ann Dehaney and Romelda Aiken-George scoring 38/43.
Time for the big one. A must win game for SA if they’re a chance to make the semi finals.

How about that for a 1st quarter? The intensity and the pressure has lifted several notches. Both sides using a careful, structured build up with the ball but still the defences have been able to come up with gains. Great game
1/2 time: South Africa 21 v New Zealand 26
Terrific game. The finals have come early. The Ferns just edged ahead late in the Q. The big difference so far is in penalties and shooting %, NZ with the advantage in both. Maia Wilson has 19/20 whereas Venter shot 11/17.
3/4 time: South Africa 34 v New Zealand 38
Maia Wilson with a long range goal on the buzzer! The Proteas are giving this a real crack! They’re forcing NZ into error but when they do, the Ferns often manage to come up with an intercept to send the ball straight back.
IT’S A DRAW!!!
48-48. Can you believe it. What a game and what a finish! The Proteas were charging home and equalised with seconds to spare.
Full time: South Africa 48 v New Zealand 48
MVP Nichole Taljaard with the goal to snatch the draw. NZ looked in control for most of the game, but 8 gains from Phumza Maweni got SA back into it. Karin Burger got 7 of her own for NZ. SA actually had 8 more attempts.
