Was Vui called for contacting the defender with the ball when attempting the shot?
@Jinxibo – she might not know yet, it might be pending a decision as to an exemption being granted. Her comments also show what an impact peoples comments have on players. Yes I know they are not supposed to read media but if they don’t then their families clearly do.
I also think the Karaka suspension was unfair, it was not a late nor intentional hit on Souness who pinged up in front of her and probably too late to do anything about stopping.
I’d hate to think the NZ umpires suspensions this season have a long standing effect on the SF players as so many players flinched and looked worried every time there was a contact.Exactly. There were some appalling comments about Graces injury/knee on here not too long ago. I can’t imagine how hurtful reading something like that would be.
I think Nweke would go regardless whether she’s granted permission or not. Be silly of her not to. And would be astronomical for NNZ not to grant her an ‘exemption’ which I think will get scrapped.
Not sure @silverferns1 – all she has ever wanted to do is play for the Silver Ferns. But surely NNZ wouldn’t treat her the same way as Langman was treated. Did everyone hear the interview with Noels at the game today or was it only available to NZ residents? She basically said that in the recruitment process what needed to be done had been spelt out intimating that it was in NNZ hands as to whether after two years things would have improved.
That was a great game. The phantom Tiana foot trip could be one of the worst calls in ANZ finals history. Luckily it wasn’t right at the end. I thought Karaka was hard done by and it wasn’t worthy of a send off compared to other infractions this season.
If Nweke wants to go, she will go. NNZ aren’t going to say no and risk her not playing for the Ferns. She’s our only hope of winning at the moment. I imagine the only thing keeping her in NZ would be a large amount of money.

What a game! Didn’t think the mystics would get over the line. The pulse looked the sharper side for most of the game. What a rebound by Stythe!!
Could have gone either way. Sokolich Beatson was my mvp.
Jackson did well to contain Nweke. Just shows Nweke can be put off her game. A lot of missed shots.
Taurua should consider a new defensive circle. Karaka too expensive in penalties.
Well done to mystics. Pulse were very strong as well. Especially their mid court. It’s in nz and Grace’s interest that she play in the ssn. Let’s hope she does go. She needs to get used to the increased physicality and speed of the ssn and going up against the likes of Sterling Humphries, Bruce and Weston week in and week out.
Even if Netball NZ scrapped the exemption rule, I doubt many NZ players would go.
1, there isn’t enough teams in the SSN, and surely they need to start signing more Aussie playersOnly SF players that I think would get a gig in SSN would be Nweke to Swifts and Jackson to Firebirds with Kiri.
Regarding Karaka’s suspension, it may seem unfair, but those are the rules now. It doesn’t have to be intentional any more. It merely has to be an action by a player that leads to a head injury. And Karaka fits that completely.
I think Jackson could have several offers in the ssn. She showed today that she can shut down a tall holding shooter. Marinkovich would have been happy to get that intel from today’s game on how to play Nweke.
Again, can I just say that I don’t agree with the new rules. I’m just explaining what they are.
It doesn’t have to be intentional, and the player doesn’t even have to contact the other player in the head. It merely has to be an action by a player that leads to a head injury for another player. I’m a bit worried about the upcoming internationals as depending on who the umpires are, we could see some farcical scenes with lots of send offs.
