Northern Mystics / Nweke out for 4-6weekd with patella tendon issue
Possibly the first unpredictable results round.
Update on Grace Nweke from the Mystics:
"Grace has strained the patella tendon in her right knee. She is continuing to follow a graduated return to play programme with the view to being back out on court within four to six weeks."#netball— Bridget Tunnicliffe (@bridgettunni) May 10, 2024
Saunders is out for the Steel today. There goes my first tip 🙂
Christie is doing a good job. Going to be another close one methinks!!
Steel defence is pretty poor – only 6 gains. Also just 26 penalties, they didn’t seem to contest enough. Unsure why Strydom only got 30 mins. They missed Saunders in attack, too.
I spoke too soon ????! But my god I wish someone would turn that male commentator’s microphone off. More annoying than Justin Marshall and thats saying a lot!!
I thought the steel maybe ran out of steam a bit in the last Q. Still such a huge improvement from round one
Steel have absolutely improved since Round 1. Even without Saunders. Fifita is no where the player she was when she took the time off, perhaps she would have been better next tier down for a season and another defender found, but I know there is a shortage. Spending the competition season making your way back to Premiership level isnt the way to go. I can’t work out why Lawson doesn’t get more game time.
Christie is good, still learning her trade but she had plenty of game time last season.I would love to see Saviour Tui get some game time against England later this year. Her combo is great with Ekenasio and will only get better with time. I prefer her over Walmsley.
Agreed @silverferns1. Tui has had mixed seasons in recent years but I remember when she covered for Mes at the Mystics for the full season and she was very very good (she would have been bench sitting otherwise). She was always marked as an up and coming talent (since school). She is also a useful GA and now she has upped her fitness levels I’d love to see her in the Black dress. I am assuming that her knee injury from off season two years ago is not causing any major concern as I noticed the strapping is back, therefore I would like to see what she can do.
Those who are more au fait with international netball rules – is Tui eligible for Ferns selection because she didn’t play at NWC?
I seem to recall that loophole is how Shimona Jok was able to be the 11th player for the Mavs and therefore eligible for Diamonds selection?
A full season of playing alongside Ekenasio won’t hurt her chances, and certainly with a number of current squad members under injury clouds, particularly Nweke, Tui would be a handy option waiting in the wings.
3:45 left in the second quarter of the Pulse vs Tactix game and the Pulse lead by 3. It’s 14-11! Very much a defenders game.
Geeez Walmsley is a drama Queen.
