Cheered on by a jubilant home crowd in Dunedin, the Southern Steel have toppled the Northern Mystics 47-43 on Sunday.

The way this round is going maybe the Stars will beat the Tactix tomorrow night ????
I say nothing, except well done Steel.
@Netballfan1 again, the Ferns went horrible earlier this year when Karaka was captain. How would you like her to act after disappointing games?
Karaka sat on the bench alot back in January when she was Ferns captain, Mystics made lots of changes today, some seemed not necessary, they lacked flow.
I picked Steel in my tipping.@McLeod, saw you tipped the Steel – well done. I backed them and Magic last week, hovered over picking Steel today for a few days then went Mystics. When I saw Christie was out I thought Mystics were a shoe in for winning. Not sure what it is with Mystics, I think better fitness would help as the new WA managed to make her presence felt in the second half over MSB who had kept her fairly quiet in the first.
I know many love Toeava but I’m still on the fence/below the fence with her ability to sustain a full game at pace and think ahead at the same time.
I don’t mind the blunt answers to the media – when a losing captain says they had learnings from the day time after time it gets a tad repetitive. I’m forthright so what Karaka and MSB say is okay with me.
I think the shooting circle was the let down, they lost confidence.Sadly Toeava proves why she doesnt get a black dress in games like that one against the Steel. The Steel played well youd think that WA had played ANZ for years
I think the Mystics and Pulse injuries are now starting to bite – this is more how I expected these teams to play a few rounds ago.
Yes love the new Steel WA – let’s see if they can keep it up after a few rounds as the newbies this season seem to have a great first game but are inconsistent afterwards.
Toeava seems to get the blame when Mystics lose, but also gets criticised when they win cause apparently all she can do is bomb it into Nweke ????♂️ The attack end would be lost without her.
The shooting circle was big let down for Mystics. Filda Vui looked like she didn’t want to be there. I found her efforts quite lack lustered. Didn’t she come off the court injured last week?Pulse really missed that genuine C option. Someone commented that Souness should have played C, with Petera at WA – I agree!
Steel also have been hit hard by injuries, (for several years now) but in true Steel fashion just keep on swimming and look at what they can produce.
I have actually liked how Toeava has played the last couple of weeks, but she brought back in the sulk again last night, which to me cancels out the good she can do…Savai’inaea often seems to get the better of her.
Still quite a hard watch, going from watching SSN games to ANZ, it’s a little like watching the top half at the world champs and then the bottom half
Seriously the ANZ does not resemble the bottom 6 teams at the WC, and after seeing how terrible the Swifts were the other day, the SSN isn’t all bells and whistles either.
7 (if I counted correctly) starting player injuries haven’t helped the overall feel of the competition.
Agree – with Nweke, Dunn and Metuarau missing, we are not seeing the best.
I’m sure it’s like every sport comp, if teams lose their best players then there is going to be a lull in games.
Mystics would be lost without Toeava. We saw that when she went off into the blood bin at the end of the quarter for a bit. Toeava wasn’t herself yesterday. She’s the barometer of that Mystics team; if she’s not playing well the whole team doesn’t play well. Just like Kim Green was for the Diamonds a while back. I don’t think it’s fair to judge Toeava on one bad game over the last few years where she’s been absolutely superb!
