            From Netball Singapore…

Singapore has reclaimed the Asian netball crown, clinching a dramatic victory over Sri Lanka with a final score of 67-64 after extra time. This win marks Singapore’s fourth Asian Netball Championships title and their first since 2014, ending a decade-long wait for the prestigious trophy.

The final was a thrilling contest, with Singapore making a strong start to lead 17-12 at the end of the first quarter. However, Sri Lanka responded fiercely, narrowing the gap to just one goal (28-27 to Singapore). The third quarter saw a momentum shift as Sri Lanka pulled ahead with a 42-39 lead, setting the stage for a nail-biting final quarter. Singapore dug deep in the final quarter to tie the game 52-52 to force the game into extra time. The battle remained tight in the first half of extra time, with the scores locked at 59-59, but Singapore’s relentless effort paid off in the second half of extra time to seal a hard-fought 67-64 victory.

Co-captain Toh Kai Wei reflected on the team’s accomplishment: “The win definitely means a lot. The whole year, we’ve been talking about getting first in the Asian Netball Championships. We are very happy with the performance. We are very proud of the team. Kudos to Sri Lanka; they really put up a good fight to make us earn this victory.”

Interim coach Yeo Mee Hong praised the team’s effort: “I’m very happy with the game and the girls’ composure. We were also very disciplined with our passing. Our basics were fantastic, and we also treasured the ball more. This was the area we wanted to improve on.”
