Peta in the photo COB uploaded to her insta story.
Interesting about Peta – could she be more than a TP?
I’d like to see Georgia Heffernan or Tiana Metuarau in the squad for Maia Wilson too – I don’t think Maia has the speed or the feed at GA , if Eke is off.
Ferns desperately need a back up for Ekenasio. They need a natural play maker and Wilson is not that. Peta also needs to be in there. She’s clearly the best WA NZ have. COB will get eaten alive by the aussies if Souness is still injured. Poi is an example of being fit but not having the connections with anyone else. She is not a WA. I just hope Peta is fit.
anyone know when the Ferns will announce their squad?
They’re sure taking their time!
I’m a bit disappointed with Poi, back when she was in the Ferns can’t remember which year but she killed it against Aussie. She won them that game her and Wilson.
Would love to see Noeline test a different combo. ekinasio isn’t getting any younger, who’s the next in line? Please not say Wamsley at Ga!
Just having a look at the NZ constellation cup team. I’m sorry but Noles needs to go! There is absolutely no blooding of a new GA, Mia isn’t the answer and Ekinasio has been shown to go missing even though she’s our best GA.
Peta is our best WA even with Souness out she’s still not in the frame ridiculous! Erina even though I love her and shes had her best season for a long while shouldn’t be there give Burley a chance! I’m over no one questioning Noles if any other coach was doing what she’s doing they would have been gone long ago.
I cannot believe she’s gone with the same disjointed midcourt. Her decisions are mind boggling.
And to drop Souness? The second best WA in the country…
perhaps Sourness’s ankle injury was worse than thought? and playing on just made it worse – I thought she was quite poor in the game she played (could be because of the ankle though) when you go through 2 different GA’s and 3 different C’s you have to think that maybe it is the WA that is the issue – don’t get me wrong I think she’s great, but didn’t show it in her last outting (again more than likely hampered by her ankle and the constant chopping and changing)
I don’t know why the other GA’s aren’t putting the work in when there is quite blatantly the second GA spot up for grabs, when your next best options are GS’s learning GA it says a lot about those who could easily slot in there (Tiana/G Heffernan).
But at the end of the day there are many different choices/combo’s that Noels could go for, and just isn’t/won’t
The Heffernan thing is interesting, she was elevated from the training squad and played all of the nations cup expect for half a game? Now she’s dropped, I don’t understand? I didn’t watch the ANZP but I thought she’d be the next Ferns Ga.
G Heffernan had a very average ANZ, yes she played for a team that struggled, but her on court play said it all.
Far to often just standing looking at the ground when needed on defence. I only watched the Steel to see if she had the can’t be $%^&* look, and yip every week it was there.Great that Karaka is back.
Fitness pending I’d give Mason the starting GD bib. She will probably get burned by Austin but the kid needs experience. Second 30 bring Karaka onto GD, however really feel her worth would be as back-up GK to Jury with Burger in front of her.
Otherwise, Burger to be starting WD and share with Heffernan.
Gordon to start at C with COB at WA. If that’s not working I really think Poi should run C with Gordon moving to WA. However I suspect Taurua’s midcourt back-up may be moving Heffernan into C for her height as Poi in particular can get stuck behind her player.
Nweke and Ekenasio in goals, then lament Metuarau, Heffernan and Malesala’s fitness when Wilson is thrown the GA bib for 5 minute bursts.
Walmsley to be stuck to the bench until Game 4 when the series is lost..
The Ferns will need to lift again, but there was some promising signs , and momentum built, after the game 3 win v England.
I’m not writing them off yet 🙏
IMO the team who did the job then should start v the Diamonds, assuming Mason is fit.
I don’t think GHeff missed selection based on fitness… While she has some work-ons for her game, id still rather her than any of the other GA backup options.
Karaka has versatility to play 3 positions, and experience – but I just don’t think she is, or has ever been, a gold medal game winner. Ungracious comments she made after mystics lost to steel this year, and about England “taking the piss”, IIRC, by fielding a less experienced (but still winning!) team against the Ferns last year, don’t endear me to her either.
While Nweke has the edge, I don’t think Walmsley is far behind. If grace plays like she did in game 2 v Eng then Walmsley should get a run, 100%. She’ll be it in season 2025 – time to give get some more experience and confidence now.
