I need to double check but how many interceptions did the Diamonds get?

I think in game 1 they got 1. I think SM will mix up her defence for the next game. Weston and Bruce aren’t having the impact they usually bring.

I get the feeling Grace won’t miss out on playing for the Ferns next year.

Oh and when Poi was at C in game 2 when Maddy was of the court, Ferns scored 5 in a row. Hmmm

1 intercept in the first test, 4 in the second.

Absolute mistake not picking Ash Ervin. I’m still struggling to work out that non selection.

TBH the (only) good thing about Nweke potentially being unavailable next year is it will force Taurua to properly blood Walmsley. I don’t think Walmsley would have seen the court in the TJ Series and Con Cup in 2023 if Nweke was fit. I get it, Nweke is on the up and still learning her craft but instances like NWC had us caught out big time. We will be infinitely stronger with a world class GS and a ready-to-go back-up waiting in the wings, but Walmsley needs that game time. I’m hoping for a Ferns win in Perth so she gets a go in Game 4! NB: This is also after me previously stating Walmsley would only see the court in the last test with the Ferns 0-3 – talk about egg on my face..

This Ferns fan hopes the players not in the 12 are sitting at home watching and training the house down to try get in on the action. Really interesting on Netball Zone, Anna Harrison asked Parris Mason about an interview she gave earlier in the year where she said she thought her fitness would hold her back from making the Ferns. Mason talked about working with her trainer who said “I will get you there.” Good on her, and I home some of Mason’s contemporaries saw that clip and took inspiration!

Can the Diamonds win the next two tests? Sure. If SM thinks they can, there’s no reason to spring Ervin on the Silver Ferns this early in the cycle. It reminds of when Fuhrmann came on the scene and got the better of van Dyk, but the Silver Ferns/van Dyk changed their game plan to nullify her come CWG and WC time.

Hopefully the Ferns can adjust to the time diff. 4pm Perth time is 9pm NZ time. I feel this is one of the things that have troubled them in the past.

@Ian, thanks for the intercept info.

SM has got to be concerned about that. I think she’ll go for height and hands over in the next game. She’ll want to get ball before it gets to Grace.

I think Souness will be back in the squad. There was 1 point where Poi was surrounded by 3 players and couldn’t throw the ball over the long arms.

Souness needs to improve massively, she isn’t a C option at all.

Agree @Wewood re Walmsley. And not just for Walmsley, hopefully it’ll ignite something for players like Salmon and Tui (potential Ferns GS).

Diamonds playing in Aus will be a whole new ball game. I feel Ferns should celebrate their wins……now leave it……….start again. I do believe the Ferns can take this, but we haven’t seen the best of Aus yet.

The key to a Ferns win is Ekenasio, if she starts well and shoots the long bombs, Ferns win, if Meels mind is of sitting on the beach meditating, then Ferns are going to struggle.

Ekenasio’s performance is based on how well our midcourt play. If they continue the form they currently have, she can concentrate on her own job.
If the Diamonds find a way to slow them down, Ekenasio will struggle. Cause she generally tries to do too much eg England series.

I’m interested to see who the Diamonds name in their lineup today.

Well there you go! And what a shame Horjus didn’t get a crack against England.

Dwyer must be getting the start today, I think a rest will do Austin some good.
