Courtney Bruce is possessed in the best way! Mostly making good choices, unselfishly helping Aryang get an intercept they could each have taken, flying for balls without taking people out, and getting reward in the form of bad feeds.
Wilson is not a GA. Would like to see Walmsley at GA.
Ferns losing it more than the Diamonds are winning it.
Nweke jumping too early, with bad feeds coming her way.
Aryang proving why lots of us were calling for her to start.
1/2 time: AUS 32-26
Garbin 18/18 (100%)
Austin 14/16 (88%)Nweke 6/7 (86%)
Wilson 5/6 (83%)Gains: AUS 4-2
Penalties: NZ 26-25
Turnovers: NZ 8-5Australia’s best Q of the series as they capitalised on some NZ errors. Mason came on for Burger.
I’m also enjoying the old Bruce starting to come back
Can we call this testing combinations for the Ferns 😂
3/4 time: AUS 48-37
Garbin 28/28 (100%)
Austin 20/23 (87%)Nweke 13/14 (93%)
Ekenasio 10/11 (91%)Gains: AUS 7-5
Penalties: NZ 43-38
Turnovers: NZ 14-8Another strong quarter from Australia. Numerous changes from NZ as they look to fight back.
Karaka is having SOME impact!
Full time: AUS 63-50
A terrific win from the Diamonds tonight in Melbourne as they avoid a clean sweep.
The Silver Ferns claim the 2024 Constellation Cup 3-1!
Nice to see a stronger game from the Diamonds. Shooters had a lot more confidence to shoot the ball instead of passing it around, especially Austin. Defence also stepped it up, was great to watch. I hope this game solidifies Aryang as the starting GD.
I do think the margin is more reflective of Nz not playing as well as the past three tests. A shame we didn’t get to see this Diamonds play the Ferns from the past three games, probably would have only been a goal or two in it.
Idk what was with all the changes for the Ferns, why not just go to the same starting seven at half time? It’s one thing to change out a position that’s not quite working, but that many changes just unsettles the team. Taking Gordon off was a head scratcher.
I can only see Maia back in the black dress if everyone is failing fitness standards or injuries.
Gordon really proved her worth in that 3rd quarter. SF should’ve gone back to the 7 from game 3 at half time – I think that was a missed opportunity.
I was very pleased to see the Diamonds attacking end play to their potential. Moloney was an underrated part of that IMO. Aryang MVP to me – she was in EVERYTHING!
Baffled about Aryang not getting best on, this was one of her best games. Watch out Jo, she’s coming for your bib (if she doesn’t have it already). Her intercept in the second quarter was outstanding.
Nice to see Australia figure out how to win. Yes NZ tried a lot of combos, but the Diamonds can only play what’s in front of them and they kept their heads. Defence on Nweke was much improved.
When else can you give players a chance against a red hot Australia and see if they can handle the pressure.
Nweke, Eke, Poi, Gordon, Heffernan, Burger, Jury – already in
Walmsley – not in as a GA, but next GS (ferns and diamonds were equal the first quarter)
Wilson – not in as GA. Walmsley ahead of her in GS
Claire O’Brein – not confident at this level.
Mason – have her in, best upcoming GD
Karaka – worth having her around for her experience. Added smarts and heights in that last quarter. The SF need a backup GA and a backup WA/C
