I didn’t get to watch much of the tournament. What did everyone think?

I preferred it when teams chose what 1/4 they used their power play. Like when Maria shot lights out back in the day.

But Martina Salmon will be in the proper Ferns soon, another one that has come thru the Australia system.

I won’t mention the umpiring, but I think it’s been one of the best yet (result aside lol), all teams competitive, and came to win, but all played in the spirit of Fast 5, not sure I like the not being able to play it back rule, but the 1 pointer staying as 1 during the power play is good. And not convinced about the sending offs during the power play, some deserved, others not, but I guess everyone knew the rules going into it. the comradery between the teams is great to see growing each year

I think the rule changes have created a more exciting tournament. The sending off feels a little negative due to how often it happens, and that it lead to a “by default” win. No one wants those types of outcomes. Perhaps a better way would be advancing to a penalty shot at goal, where a player can shoot undefended in either 3,2 or 1 (decided by the player)?

Would also like to see a 4th men’s team introduced to give the mens teams more games.

Oh, and NZ/ChCh has done a great job hosting this tournament.

Another observation, Frew has cemented herself as a future Diamond and I don’t think it’s too far away.

@NB12 I think the whole Diamonds squad should be on notice!!

I think the future is looking bright for the Silverferns too (aswell as all the young ones playing in the other teams!!)

I thought the tournament as a whole was good. I agree with some of the other comments about the umpiring – but I think all teams were equally affected by its poor standard. And a 4th mens team would be excellent. Their games were really exciting. Forcadilla is fast becoming one of my favourite players.

Of course both of the players of the tournament will be from NZ when it’s a public vote.

I hope you are right about Frew NB12 – she’s come on very fast, it’s not that long since she was playing ressies in the state league for Matrics.

@D-fencr who would you’ve picked as player of the tournament? Genuine question, there were so many stand outs that I’m not sure just one could, or should be singled out

Actually good question for everyone who watched

I’m not sure, it probably wasn’t as obvious this year as recent tournaments (eg Cholhok or Reed). I don’t think Australia would have won all their games without Letherbarrow or Austin. Or TOS, but defenders don’t get rewarded in this format!
