Don’t like the new ruling that dangerous play automatically constitutes a two minute suspension, at least not if dangerous play is interpreted as it has been historically. The Ugandan GD was definitely reckless but it really wasn’t that bad of a hit. Even the Roses were shocked by the ruling, especially Housby.
1/4 time: 15-15
Nweke 13/13 (100%)
Heffernan 2/3 (67%)Cholhok 11/14 (79%)
Eyaru 4/4 (100%)Well, there you go. An exciting action-packed first quarter ends with the scores level after Uganda scores 7 of the last 10 goals.
That challenge from Nakitto yesterday was the same as several others in the game, but it’s just that it resulted in a collision with the goalpost. That was the only difference.
1/2 time: UGA 31-29
Nweke 24/24 (100%)
Heffernan 5/6 (83%)Cholhok 24/27 (89%)
Eyaru 7/7 (100%)Could we be in for an upset? In a period of 11 mins at the end of the first Q and start of the 2nd, Uganda went on a 15-6 run to put NZ under pressure.
3/4 time: NZ 46-44
Nweke 38/38 (100%)
Heffernan 8/9 (89%)Cholhok 33/37 (89%)
Eyaru 11/11 (100%)
Nassanga 0/1 (0%)New Zealand regained the lead in the 3rd Q after some hesitancy from the Ugandan midcourt resulted in turnovers. Still anyone’s game.
Full time: NZ 65-60
In a high scoring game, NZ came out on top thanks to greater experience in tight situations. In a match of few errors, once the ball reached Nweke and Cholhok, it was a goal and the Ferns were just a bit better at creating chances.
1/4 time: AUS 18-13
Cardwell 11/12 (92%)
Housby 2/3 (67%)Garbin 13/13 (100%)
Dwyer 5/5 (100%)Statistically speaking, there’s very little to separate the teams, but Australia takes a handy 5 goal lead into the 2nd Q.
1/2 time: AUS 33-28
Cardwell 19/20 (90%)
Housby 9/10 (90%)Garbin 24/24 (100%)
Dwyer 9/10 (90%)The Diamonds take a 5 goal lead into the 2nd half. So far the only change has been Aryang on for Weston during the 2nd Q. What will the coaches do now?
The turnovers and penalties are mounting up against Australia as England levels the score at 36-36!
Well, that was a BIG Q from England and they take a 45-43 lead into the last quarter. Can they hold on or will the Diamonds fight back?
Australia wins 61-59! Great game. That 3rd Q from the Roses really made for a big finish, but the Diamonds showed their class in the last 15 minutes and managed to take the win.
Here are the stats from this ripper of a game. The Diamonds had less gains, less pick ups, less attempts, more turnovers, more penalties, and yet somehow still won thanks largely to better accuracy and rebounding.
