Rapt to see Hadley get to play WA and show everyone what she can do. I called for it during the WC, yes Watson is a machine but Diamonds need another option there. Hadley is a great WA and she also brought confidence out of Austin (bit like the Mundy Vixens move). Combinations are so important.

Completely agree Tully. People forget that Hadley plays WA week in week out for the Swifts. I thought but she gelled excellently with Price and Austin really lifted. Hopefully we see it used more often as a change-up.

I wouldn’t mind seeing more of Aryang at WD, she was so good there during Con Cup.

Having just watched the Nz/aussie game and Nz/uganda game today (which Nz were lucky to win IMO) there just seems to be a bit of the ‘mongrel’ missing in the Silver Ferns. They don’t seem that hungry for the win. Whereas Aussie are always hungry for the win. Players like Laura langman, ekensio, sharelle McMahon , back in the day, had this relentless hunger to win ball but I don’t see that in this ferns squad at the mo. However, am looking forward to the eng/NZ game next Saturday

I think the Ferns have hunger and determination at times, but the biggest difference I see is that there seems to be a higher acceptance of making mistakes and losing from individuals and the squad. I don’t think it’s necessarily a big shock, because they have been making mistakes and losing more in recent years. But it just translates to periods of low intensity and quite uninspired play that can cost them matches. At times when I watch the Ferns it almost feels like they’re pretty content if they lose as long as it’s not a blowout. Compared to previous Kiwi outfits, there’s a lack of burning determination from the team as a collective to win every quarter and every match.

Can Amy Carter from England play WA? She’s so quick and zippy, I feel like she could smash it

you would think the silver ferns will have the desire and hunger to win against England with their coaches job on the line like the All Blacks did v South Africa in 2022. One would hope!

Have to say but to me this is the most boring Ferns style of play ever. No spark, so long range shooting, watching G Heffernan pass the ball to Grace time after time after time against Uganda, even though G Heffernan was the same dam distance from the post, just shot the bloody thing. The zone defence needs a revamp, the defenders are not going for intercepts, the mid court needs some fizz.
Seems we can only beat Australia in New Zealand, getting toasted by 13 goals was terrible, then the constant love affair of playing Kate Heffernan at C is so frustrating, we have way better C options, and most of them are not Noel’s favs. Anyway prob only 2 more games left for Noel’s as coach, who takes over is anyone’s guess.
