Mavs defense did better than expected especially coming up against diamonds goal attack and shooter

Grenvold looked like she has solid potential she should definitely get more time

Kim Jenner looked great hope we can see her keep improving I wanna see the Jenner that played with hinchliffe at firebirds she was dominating

Very solid game by Moloney at C.

Vixens should have won by more. Too many silly mistakes.

Moloney had a cracker. Walters was spectacular on debut. 26 goal assist, 40 feeds, 2 intercepts and 4 GPT. Couple of times she needed stronger hands but that comes with experience. Ellis was a pleasant surprise. The work with Norder is paying off! Gosh Austin is frustrating. Can do things that are so special then just seems to lose intensity and throw multiple silly passes in a row. Very frustrating. Austin had 10 turnovers!

Great win considering they were without Weston and Mundy. Will have great depth and options once back to full strength.

Jovic was great for Mavs. Fraser was disappointing. Verdict is out on whether she is a starting WA imo. Cardwell needs support. Jenner was great but like Cardwell she needs support. Lewis is fantastic in the air but does get lost by footwork.

Well, this is exciting. Great game. It’s 11-11 as Swifts call a time out with 3.34 left in the 1st Q.

Great start. A late turnover against Swifts sees Lightning edge out a 19-16 lead against Swifts at the end of the first Q. The Watson, Fretwell, Koenen combo working well for Lightning. Fretwell & Housby both with 2/2 super shots so far.

                  1/2 time: Lightning 36-33

Helen Housby has helped get Swifts right back into this game after Lightning had edged out to a lead of 7 with 2 minutes to go in the half. Those two great ball magnets, Liz Watson & Maddy Proud both have 13 assists.

Lightning well on top in this third quarter as swifts struggle to convert. The home side leads by 10 as we approach super shot time. Can Housby get Swifts back into it.

Ervin has been very good since she came on, was very stiff to get the call against her near the end when she deflected in front of Housby.

Yep. Swifts are right back in it. Housby landed 2 super shots in that quarter, but it was actually Sophie Fawns with the hot hand. She went bang with four straight 2 pointers and narrowed the gap to just 4 at the last break. At 3/4 time, Lightning leads 56-52.

Once again, Lightning has edged away and they lead by 10 with 4 minutes left. Surely this lead is too much to peg back?

Ava Black very impressive, such a pest and won ball back! Proud and Hadley both looked a bit sick of her by the end of that.

                            Lightning outstanding that game.

                              Full time: Lightning 79-63

This really has been dominant from Lightning. 80 attempts to 55. Watson just slotted in with 29 assists. Along with Fretwell and Koenen, they’re going to be mighty hard to stop this year. Meanwhile Bruce just warmed up with 5 gains.

Swifts are an interesting one for me. TOS is a big out and I didn’t think they could beat Lightning without her but whilst they won TGC I remember thinking they should have been further ahead. Swifts are a settled experienced line but they only beat Vixens by one who had Walters and Graham playing biggest game of their life. Lost to Fever and pipped Mavs by 3. Housby is in the form of her life, if she can’t maintain this level it will be interesting to see the fate of the Swifts.

It’s disappointing to not see Smith push through. She was so good in 2020 for Vixens. She is on a 2 year contract and seems very happy at Swifts but I’d love to see her move to Mavs in the future.

Swifts missed Fraser today. She was exceptional in WD for them last year and after her game in WA for Mavs today I wonder if she stood have stayed and taken the Swift’s WD bib?
