1/2 time: THU 31-23
Thunderbirds edged further in front in Q2. Shamera doing her thing and putting shooters off their game. Swifts sticking at it but shooting at just 62%.
Gains: THU 6-3
Penalties: SWI 24-22
Turnovers: 10-10In general, defence over the shot has improved across the comp this year. But Thunderbirds are particularly good at it.
Swifts struggling big time in this third quarter. Can the power five help them out? Tbirds 45-29
3/4 time: THU 48-33
Another strong quarter for Thunderbirds, and they lead by 15. Barring something absolutely bizarre happening, they will be at the top of the ladder in 15 mins
Gains: THU 10-5
Penalties: SWI 40-31
Turnovers: SWI 16-12Uneeq Palavi lifts the crowd with an off the post play. Swifts are giving it everything and winning this last quarter so far. Tbirds 57-45
Full time: Thunderbirds 60-48
Thunderbirds go to the top of the ladder! Swifts lifted and won the last quarter 15-12, but Tbirds had the game safely in their keeping a long way out. POTM was Shamera Sterling-Humphrey with 9 gains!
Last round – games will determine minor premiers, who comes second, third and fourth and who gets the wooden spoon….
And most of that won’t be known till the end of the last game of the round.
Yowza…..
I just watched the Lightning Firebirds replay. At the very end, there was a penalty and Fretwell tried to pass off but the buzzer rang so she shot it herself. The goal didn’t count as time was up. Is it just me or should this have been counted as it was a penalty?
I think if you watch it again you can hear the umpire apologise and correct herself, you just don’t see it happening because she isn’t on the screen.
I didn’t watch the after show though so not sure if it was corrected to the score. Bad error if it wasn’t.
The score was corrected at the end to reflect Steph’s goal 🙂
And by having the imports every single Australian player is getting the opportunity to play against and/or train with those imports, learning how they work so they can use it to their advantage when Australia plays them in an international match. It goes both ways.
Having said that, I would say that the rules are being interpreted almost completely in favour of attacking players at the moment. Hopefully that will even out soon.
