UPDATE | Maddy Proud has been ruled out of today’s clash with the Melbourne Vixens at KRA due to a knee complaint.
The extent of the complaint is yet to be determined. As a result, Proud will be replaced in the Game Day squad by rookie attacker Grace Whyte.#NewHeights pic.twitter.com/6Gpghc5GZQ

I don’t see why they selected Butler either. Palavi is playing VNL so isn’t injured and is a TP so not great for her. If they wanted a moving GA to feed Jok I would have looked at Sacha McDonald. Never took the next step at Vixens but did reasonably well in England and is a nice feeder / play maker.

There’s definitely plenty of shooting depth in Australia. But a lot of that depth is tied up at other SSN clubs and not available at short notice.
I hope Mavs can live up to their original words and invest in Vic pathways athletes.
How many VIC pathway players do Mavs have in the team or as training partners?
I’ll have a go at answering my question although there is not a lot of info on the Mavs players on the SSN Mavs page.
Cardwell – England
Glasgow – England (from South Aus pathway?)
Fraser – NSW pathway (I assume)
Nankivell – Souh Aus pathway
Parmenter – NSW (I assume)
Jovic- VICIn the main team, Jovic and Sinclair. Then as TPs, Holmes, Palavi and Allan? Someone correct me if I’m wrong.
I’m not too sure why people are criticising the umpires for leaving the arena immediately at the end of play – they ALWAYS do. In this instance, they obviously hadn’t left the venue as they returned when a decision to play ET was finally made.
After almost an hour after normal play ceased, this was a dumb decision. They should have just called it a draw and split the points (unfair to both teams, but the least unfair result).
If Giants were aware of the score discrepancy and the error was in the 3rd Q, why hadn’t they challenged the score at 3Q time?
How did both scorers make the same error?
From what Julie Fitz said, they did protest at the time. It wasn’t mentioned on TV by Fox though.
Yes a lot of the young Australian talent are TPs at other clubs but I would have thought even Kaylia Stanton who is playing very well in VNL would have been a better choice than Butler, does Butler even play netball regularly anymore? How do you expect her to go against Sterling.
Or if they wanted to go interstate then Emma Cosh.
I guess it didn’t help Mavs that Streuker is also out injured – how unlucky that 4 out of 10 contracted players are injured (2 long term)!!
But a bit weird to not use your TP who has been training with you all pre-season,has connections with the GS from VNL and go for someone who hasn’t any recent connections with any of them (although a bit of a like for like with Sinclair – small, mobile etc)I don’t know about a mistake in the 3rd quarter. I have rewatched the game and with 1.43 left on the clock the Giants were 71 and the Lightning were 70 on the stadium score board. The Lightning got a turn over and levelled the score. The Giants called a time out and at some point during the time out the Giants score was adjusted on the stadium score board. There was no further score during regular time of the game. I don’t know what is the fair thing to was give what a debacle it was.
1/4 time: Vixens 15-14
Wow, that 15 minutes flew by. Good game. It’s close, as the scores would suggest. Paige Hadley is doing a huge amount of work with no Proud in the team today. The battle between Helen Housby and Jo Weston is a beauty.
Great start to the second quarter from Swifts. They’re really up for this clash, and lead 22-20 prompting McKinnis to call a time out.
1/2 time: Vixens 31-30
Another exciting quarter and at the end of it all, it was 16-16 and Vixens still lead by 1. Both these teams are trading super shots, 6 to Swifts and 5 to Vixens. For Swifts, Hadley has 12 assists and Mundy has 13 for Vixens.
