1/4 time: Vixens 19-14

It took over 3 minutes for Vixens to finally get on the board, but they then proceeded to go on a 19-8 run to finish the quarter. Sophie Garbin with 13 goals, 3 assists and 2 rebounds so far.

What is with Austin’s turnover numbers? They’re consistently high, she already has 5 in this game. Is it her own passing/catching/shooting? Or is this frontline struggling and Austin just happens to be the one with the turnover next to her name?
From what I’ve seen, it’s bad decisions and waiting for the umpires to get her the ball rather than chasing it.

1/2 time: Lightning 34-30

Well, this is an interesting game, but a strange one. Lightning has scored the first 6 goals of each Q. They went on with it in that second Q and won it 20-11. Vixens wouldn’t be happy with their half time turnover tally of 12-7.

For the start of this Q, Ellis has moved to her preferred GK, with Mannix and Weston shifting out one position. Leesa Mi Mi is having a cracker of a game for Lightning and Mannix is dominating for Vixens.

3/4 time: Lightning 48-45

Lightning just has the upper hand now, but there are so many changes of possession against both sides, it’s hard to predict exactly what’s going to happen in this 4th Q. Anyone’s game really. So much riding on this for both teams.

Once again, Vixens slow starters in this last Q. This Ervin/Hinchliffe combo has been very impressive. An incredible 16 possession gains between them so far, and they help Lightning get out to a 9 goal lead, 55-46.

Ooof, Vixens with a lot of turnovers getting run over in this one unless something major changes. Not having Eddy has been a real problem but the lack of available change in WA is also an issue. Not that Mundy has been playing bad but if they had Walters then they could shuffle Moloney back to WD.

Ervin is fantastic. Should be the starting GK even when Bruce is back. Liz will be very happy with how she’s turned up against her old team.

Full time: Lightning 64-57

Well, that was something. A vital win for Lightning, and Vixens just didn’t click today. They lose their unbeaten status with this result. Leesa Mi Mi was named POTM after a ripper of a game in centre; 19 assists, 2 intercepts.

There’s no doubt Vixens missed Kate Eddy today. Once again, Emily Mannix did her best to keep Vixens in the hunt with a brilliant game… 10 gains, 4 intercepts, 10 deflections.

As soon as I saw them come out with Garbin at GA and Austin GS I knew they’d fall apart. Hasn’t worked in any attempt to try that before. If they wanted Garbin out I would have out Andrew on at GS.

Mannix is in phenomenal form. Was fairly clear they needed her on Koenen. Ellis was either lost and nowhere or stuck on Koenen’s body and unable to get up to compete in the air. Weston was the best option in WD of what they tried so why not out Coffey on at GD as most of the time she would have had Batcheldor against her who took quite awhile to settle. Moloney is not a WA and should never be used there. Every time Barkmeyer has been called on as a TPshe has performed and would have been a far superior WA option.

But seriously commentators ask when Walters will be back?! Add her in and there midcourt allows Moloney back to WD.
