Could Charlie Bell make a return to the Firebirds if Wallam leaves? Wonder what Emily Moore is doing, and if she’s not returning, how the Firebirds shooting circle will look, assuming that Gretel won’t return. Is Tippah likely to return?
If Cardwell is going to Mavericks, then who will the Thunderbirds get to replace her or will Austin step up to that starting position? Regardless, they’ll still need a replacement in the shooting circle? Lauren Frew maybe?
Interested to see where Miller ends up. What do we think the chances are of her returning to the Giants?
Also very interested to see how Fever’s defensive line shape up. Anyone got any thoughts? Dehaney to replace Bruce?
Wonder if Jo Harten will play another season and if not, who will replace her? I’m also curious to see what the Giants do with their defence end, given the retirement of April Brandley!
The only place I can see Wallam going to is Giants, and that’s only if Jo Harten is not playing. Otherwise I’m not too sure where she could go?
I thought Vixens could have been a good move for her, but Garbin is heading there. I guess she could jump over to SCL and hope for court time? I’d say she knows Belinda quite well?Rumour is giants have Ward to replace Brandley. Ward is a brilliant gain but they lose more height with that change and height (or lack thereof) is a problem for them so will be interesting to see the remainder of their defensive lineup.
I rate Miller but she never really settled into SCL. Was outstanding as a TP for Giants. I don’t think leaving SCL is bad for her as she never really thrived there. But hopefully she gets a spot somewhere. She would balance out the Giants midcourt so I hope they pick her up. From all reports Swifts are promoting LGB to replace Fraser.
Personally I think Horjus is a better GA than Dwan. But TBirds had no other WA options so were forced to have Horjus in WA permanently. They could pick up Miller to allow Horjus into GA.
I think Dehaney will be at Fever or Firebirds.
As for Dwan I heard she was going to FBs but Code are saying it isn’t decided yet. I trust their sources.
What does everyone think of Mavericks name and colours?
I’m a little underwhelmed. Mainly because there is already an elite level team called Mavericks (NSL). Not that original.
Blue is very safe. It’s my favourite colour. But I would have preferred a bolder choice. They were never going to go Orange or Purple given the NV links with Phoenix and Kestrels but they would have been bold colour choices just like hot pink was when TBirds went to that.
Mavericks is a very “meh” name, I could take it or leave it. It doesn’t seem like a strong brand, noting there’s already other sport teams with that name. Would have rathered they go for something original, like the JackJumpers in the NBL.
Tbirds need another option at GA apart from Horjus. I agree she’s a natural in that position, but she is so short that good defence over her shot can really cause issues. Her future is at WA.

For me this team is way too similar to Vixens. They’re both shades of blue and both from Melbourne (shame they didn’t do a regional area).
For some reason I thought they were aligning themselves with the southeast more? Like South East Melbourne Phoenix does in the NBL? I don’t know where I got that impression from. But it would have been a good differentiator and geographic tie.
SEN is following Smith, and Dwyer. Wonder if that means anything?
I’m a fan of Horjus at GA. Agree that she was their best option at WA this season.
I feel her and Austin can form a very strong combination, if they could recruit a good WA.With Horjus, I think she needs to stay in WA, she’s had two seasons there, if the Long term plan was to keep her in shooting she wouldn’t of played WA as much as she did. They could recruit Kelsey Browne?
Whilst I agree Horjus is a great WA and it will be her stronger position long term. It’d be short sighted to not play her at GA at all. There is. I reason she can not play both.
If TBirds had a strong alternate WA then they could use Horjus in GA. I do agree they need a second option in GA though if Dwan leaves, there are some available.
Anyone who thinks clubs don’t have their lists sorted needs to listen to Neville on the IG story of Mavericks. Talks about the players having connections from Aussie underage or clubs etc and that the my have connected off court. She knows exactly who her 10 are.
@netballgirl Kelsey Browne would be the perfect WA for Tbirds to pick up. That would be a very exciting attack.
It’ll interesting to see how Mavericks shooting end will go next season. I am a fan of Sinclair, but I would have gone for a tall GS. We saw it work great this season when Cardwell moved out to GA. If Cardwell gets shut down, having to rely on two shorter GAs where they are use to shooting from range with tall shooter for rebounds. Could be a risk.
Glasgow may want to play more GS? Switch up between both GA and GsmS rather than just GA like the last few years. May have been part of the team’s recruitment strategy for her?
Really until the last few years Glasgow was more of a GS anyway and pretty sure she is about 185.
So if Leesa Mi Mi is going to SCl then surely Veve got the last midcourt spot at FBs? I hope so, so overdue for a contract. Now just to get Palavi one. Please WCF pick her up! (I’d prefer TBirds brought Nyah Allen home but would still be happy with Palavi at TBirds).
