Good shooting end, but apart from Parmenter, the rest of the team is a bit underwhelming in my opinion.
Yeah I agree Ian.
I could be proven completely wrong but can’t see them taking it all out. May as well have gone for a couple of youngsters and built the combinations for the future.
I think they need a great preseason and very good coaching or else I see problems through the court. I suspect teams this year will do a better job of shutting down Glasgow if she plays GA, and whether someone can step up as playmaker in WA remains to be seen. I’m guessing Fraser will play WA? The defensive end has a lot of talent but lacks a bit of height and experience. Locking down Nicole Richardson as an assistant coach would be their smartest move.
I’m also curious about how they intend to go about marketing the team and building a fanbase. Only two Victorians, one international star, an English coach and Melbourne as their home base? Are there parts of Melbourne/Victoria that are more likely to want to support a new team over the Vixens? What crossover potential is there with SEN’s other teams?
I hope things go well because I want 8 (or more!) strong, successful teams in the comp, and I like most of the players, I just have some doubts.
I actually think that the NV bid for a team in the western corridor would have done better at attracting Vixen or new fans. So much talent through there and they wouldn’t have had to commute to Melbourne for the games. Mannix as a Geelong girl may have signed up as the inaugural captain.
Anyway… we have Mavs. They have long spoken about focusing on the South- East which presumably puts them out of Waverley. So that gives them a point of difference to the SNHC and VIS based Vixens. Try and build grass root connections through Waverley and do clinics etc. personally I think they should play out of Waverley. Smaller stadium. Get a sell out and big atmosphere. The coldness of an empty JCA like Magpies had wouldn’t be ideal. Then once they have built a fan base move to JCA in a year or two. Or split games between Waverley and JCA, with marquee games like Vixens and Swifts that draw crowds played at JCA.
I think they can make the midcourt work. C is the weak point as I expect Fraser will do well in WA and stronger teams will be able to expose that forcing Fraser into C. Surprised they didn’t nab Browne. But it’s more their defence I’d be worried about. Lacks height, experience, at times discipline and a clear leader.
Thanks for the insight, Tully! All good points.
An update on the stand off between NA and players.

JUST SIGN SOMETHING!!!
Lauren Moore has informed the GIANTS that she will be exploring options elsewhere for the 2024 season and beyond.
We thank Loz for her two years of service at the club and will forever remember GIANT #26.

I can see Giants back in finals.
Super shots aplenty, strong and experienced midcourt and the X factor of Ward in defence.
You certain about Ward? I see probably 2 defender spots left, I know Rudi Ellis’s name been thrown around plus Temu and Manu’a
Code seemed pretty confident about Ward. They’ve been on the money so far.
The only one they are on the fence about is whether Ellis is going to Vixens or Giants.
Nothing about Temu or Manu’a.
Rudi’s partner plays for the Bulldogs so I would say she would be hoping the Vixens sign her up. But don’t they have Olivia Lewis?
To me they are very similar players with GK being their preferred position.
One of them would be a bench sitter which they both were last season.
We will just have to wait and see I suppose. I realise a lot players play in different states to their partners.Reports say that Lewis is heading off to Mavs- Ellis would be her replacement if she went to Vixens.
Given the contracts expire today, is there any signs that the international players are having to leave the country (Australia), or are they all back home at the moment anyway? (I don’t follow any on socials)
@schmeetle – if they are in Australia on a work visa I think they have 28 days to find employment or apply for another form of visa. I read somewhere that Shimona Nelson is totally stressed out about the situation.
