Is it possible for the TBirds to snap someone signed up in the NSL? I know it has happened in the past with Jade Clark when she had originally signed with Loughborough Lightning but had played for 3 rounds before joining TBirds.
The TBirds should negotiate something with Taljaard cause the lack of quality GA’s available is worrying.
Singleton has underperformed time and time again. They’ll keep Dwan because she’d be silly to leave for 1 year and then be a bench player behind Bueta.
If she decided to leave, I’d break one of the South African girls out of their contracts or Berri Neil (she was amazing).I have a feeling Paalavi could be picked up, only because the articles stated Nelson wasn’t picked in the first round, and is waiting.
Austin will be ready soon, maybe by the end of this season to be starting GS.
I wonder if Sophie Fawns would leave?
Austin/Sophie Fawns circle? Could work, super shot strong and can play multiple positions. When Bueta comes back FBs would play Dwan – Bueta together. They’d be fools to lose her for a second time if they got her back. It’d all be part of the recruitment discussion now. Wallam is tipped to stay but for how long?
Players in NSL can break contracts. But firstly they need an SSN out clause that has not expired and secondly have to want to come. They might want to be in the NSL for another year or two. Also as the CPA and TPA negotiations continue out clauses will start expiring. Newton’s as an example expires in October.
@schmeetle, I’m not sure. That’s what code said about her visas. I’m definitely no experts on visas!
Will the Con cup happen if the precious players don’t get what they want, 1st game is in 3 weeks. No team named yet.
I don’t think they’ll get rid of Wallam, because Bueta is a reckoning force at GA. Which will limit Dwans court time. If she leaves it will be to Lightning when Wood retires. She’s got more of a chance of making diamonds at tbirds too.
Dwan is forming no Diamonds connections at TBirds.
At FBs she would with Wallam now and possibly Bueta if / when she comes back.
Wallam might choose to leave FBs if an opening comes up for her.
Lightning’s plan post Wood is surely Batcheldor – Koenen.
Dwyer and Garrett don’t have any diamonds connections and are in the squad.
Horjus, Williams and Austin will be diamonds soon. Maybe by the end of the year.
I just think her move will give her Las court time and she works so well at Tbirds so why would she leave if her place at firebirds isn’t certain, that clubs in shambles too.Dwyer plays with Price. I’d also say she is a superior player to Dwan. Plenty of experience in that Giants lineup to take her game to a higher level.
FBs had two players in Cape Town with Diamonds, RBD and Wallam. Reserves yes but TBirds had none. TBirds have not been superior in developing Diamonds in recent years to FBs.
Yes TBirds have great young talent but all clubs do. The depth in Australian netball is insane. Some of the best placed aspiring Diamonds right now are Hinchcliffe (albeit she already has a cap) as she will play with Bruce or Mundy who gets to play with Austin, Garbin and Moloney or Batcheldor who can play alongside Koenen and Watson. It’s of course not just combinations but what they learn from such experienced players. Garrett has Sterling and Wilson to learn from and take her game to another level.
I’m not saying Dwan will leave just that TBirds aren’t clearly more likely to make her into a Diamond and FBs aren’t as shambolic as you say.

So does the Gina Rhinehart non deal have anything to do with the current fiasco that is happening now?
Quote by Denzel Washington
‘Be careful what you ask for because when you ask for rain you may have to deal with mud as well’At the moment it appears that the players final requests are the ‘mud’ and that’s possibly due to NA simply needing every dollar they can get. Is it due to Rheinhart saga, well that hasn’t helped but NA is responsible for the debt that the Rheinhart sponsorship certainly would have helped.
From where I sit I don’t find out enough of the truth from media to make a call on why the contract negotiations stalled but if the money isn’t there then it isn’t and no amount of negotiating is going to resolve it.I’m on netball Australia’s side for this one. The PA have unrealistic expectations. From memory doesn’t NA have a 3 million dollar debt they need to pay off by next year? Where do these players think this money will come from? Now is not the time, to ask for pay rises,We are basically in a recession and can’t get any good so sponsors due to the Gina incident. Nobody will touch the sport.
