Per Code Vixens have signed Zara Walters! :yahoo:
I am rapt.
For those that haven’t seen Walters play at Nationals last year (Vic u 19 captain) or at ANC this year she is a dominant WA / C but can also play WD as she was actually a GD just 4 or so years ago for Geelong Grammar and Colac.
At ANC Walters led the competition for goal assists and circle feeds and was in top 4 for CPR and 2nd phase receipts. Game style wise she reminds me of Watson. Obviously she isn’t as good as Watson and I’m not suggesting that, just they play similarly like to me Mundy plays more like Kim Green did.
Really looking forward to see her play SSN.

EllisThe article suggests more court time at WD for Moloney which ties into their earlier tip of Eddy playing more GD. But why then do they need Ellis?
I like the idea of Eddy playing more GD, I think she is far more effective there than WD. But what does that mean for Weston? Back in GK? Or is she looking more towards life after Netball? I was shocked Mavericks didn’t make a big offer for Eddy, she’s surplus to requirements at Vixens and I would expect her to be starting over Jenner or Moore.
I think the Mavericks attack end will be very dominant. Glasgow and Cardwell are already excellent, and I fully expect Fraser to excel at WA under Neville’s tutelage. If Nankivell can find her old form and Jovic keeps developing there are some good options at C as well. Defence is a concern though, I really think they should have gone for Fadoju over Jenner. Jenner needs a couple of years at a club that will really build her discipline (Vixens come to mind).
Giants should have signed Browne over Pitman. Or really they should have signed Miller over both of them, especially considering their commitment to NSW juniors. I wonder who the third defender will be now that Ellis is off to Sydney, I don’t think O’Brien is ready and she’s not tall enough to be a week in week out SSN GK.
I don’t think T’Birds will be in that Adelaide GF if Austin is their only real GS option. She still has a way to go, even if she is the best young GS we have right now.
As for the extended delays, it’s difficult to judge when we are not privy to all the information. NA has really developed a reputation of being secretive and non-transparent, so trust has been lost by the PA. At the same time, I doubt NA has the means to give the players the pay rise they want, and Netball is not trending up in Australia right now unfortunately. At least not compared to other women’s sports. I doubt NA even has the means to match inflation, I mean none of the other netball leagues have been able to. The revenue sharing agreement is an interesting discussion point though.
I actually think more responsibility has to be on players, clubs and their agents to organise their own sponsorships and paid partnerships. It seems Housby makes a far bit of money from those private arrangements and more players and their teams should follow suit. Obviously not everyone is as marketable as Helen, but there are quite a few players who I think are under-promoted.
Mavs did make big plays for Eddy and Mundy. Probably other Vixens as well but definitely those two that I know of.
Yeah I can’t quite work out the Vixens defence circle if Eddy is GD then I’d have Weston at GK. In the few times she has played it she has been outstanding. But again then why recruit Ellis? Ellis seems a little surplus to requirements in this lineup but I suppose they are after her height and defence over the shot. Probably view her as the successor to Mannix.
Eddy is brilliant at GD and I look forward to an Eddy – Weston circle but I do suspect she will still be the starting WD. I believe Eddy is viewed as a future captain of the club and has often spoken of her genuine love of the club so I’m not surprised she has stayed.
I agree shame Giants didn’t go with Miller (I guess they still could and drop Sligar? Sligar would fit in well at Swifts). So much depth in the midcourt in Australia and so many talented youngsters coming through.
Could Giants go for Manu’a?
Interesting to hear Mundy and Eddy stayed at Vixens if Mav’s offered them a contract, how long have Vixens expected Watson to leave for if Mundy wanted to stay over getting a start at Mav’s?
Don’t know exactly but Watson did say she had decided before World Cup.
Before Code reported SCL’s lineup, I really thought Giants and Lightning would do a straight Miller/Sligar swap.
Not surprised about Eddy. She was very quick to go back after her short & successful Swifts stint.
I agree, Eddy has looks happy when playing for the Vixens not sure we saw that when she was playing for the Swifts.

? (Dehaney)Is Fran Williams much of a GK? If she did go to Fever, I feel they’d want her and Aryang in the circle most of the time so one of them will have to play more at GK.
Thats why I don’t think Fever should pick up Fran Williams, she’s great but she’s a Goal Defence, not a Goal Keeper but they did have two defenders on their bench last year so..
Williams is a great player but I don’t like how there will be 2 international defenders. Aryang HAS to be on court most of the time, which means one solid non-Aussie defender will be on the bench when an Aussie rookie could be gaining the experience, someone nice and tall who can play GK and GD well.
It’s going to be hard to find someone like that who is good enough for a contract- Jessie Grenvold (185cm) and Molly Watson (couldn’t find height) are both very talented Thunderbirds TPs who play more GK but are also good in GD.
