Firebirds don’t look like a happy team on court either, especially Wallam.

They look happy as a unit on socials but it’s not transferring to their match play.

They do look frustrated, probably because the team isn’t gelling on court, reminds me of early day tbirds.

Speaking of happy teams, fever look happier than ever! I think Wilkinson may get the starting bib over Beckford.

Tbirds are looking surprisingly strong, love the Aiken/Horjus combo.

Vixens were a let down in my opinion, Garbin and Austin weren’t on sync like they usually are, I wonder if it’s because Watson isn’t feeding them?

I’m starting to wonder if the firebirds have played too many trial matches.
First the Spirit cup vs Lightning. Then two games vs Tbirds. And then 3 games vs NZ. Then straight into team girls cup. All in consecutive weekends.

Their side isn’t bad, just seems like the coach can’t get the best out of them.

RAG/Horjus make a great pairing. Frew is still developing. Austin isn’t a GA. Doesn’t provide enough movement, however I think her stints at GA will help her GS game.
Plus, I think Scherian is a better WA than C, so playing Horjus in GA also helps this.

Disappointed to not see more of Graham/Andrew in Bendigo. They need to replace Kumwenda, so thought they’d trial more options.

Beckford seems a bit off the pace, but in saying that, GA has always been a weakness for Jamaica. Wilkinson impressed me, but did look to tire as the matches went on. Not loving Browne in C either.

Knowing McKinnis she won’t play the 3rd shooter, it will just be Garbin and Austin grinding it out.

I hope Beckford gains more confidence, she had too many turn overs in my opinion.

                  Tbirds strongest lineup is
                  Aiken
                  Horjus
                  Scherian
                  Williams
                  Wilson
                  Garrett
                  Sterling.

Also Lucy austin didn’t impress me this weekend, weak hands, and poor shot execution. I thought she would’ve improved from last season, hopefully she’ll be better by team girls.

So far tbirds, fever and lightning look like top contenders for me this season.

Can’t wait to see a lot of Wilkinson this season, beautiful shot even if tentative at times. Beckford was often just standing there rather than driving, but hopefully some more matchplay will help with that.

Obviously it can be said that this year’s Fever squad is weaker than last year’s, but I see it as much more flexible with more competition for bibs, especially in the defensive end.

Was surprisingly impressed by Harten- little sign of injury in her game, and still making defenders’ heads spin. Noticed her trying to find Dwyer more often than shooting herself- great for Dwyer’s development but I assume she’ll tone it down for season proper as it did lead to turnovers.

Firebirds had an utter lack of cohesion and happiness- hopefully it’s just fatigue, or this will be a miserable season. Can’t help wondering if things would be different with Bueta- obviously happy she’s spending time with her family, but I miss watching her play! Fingers crossed she has one more season in her, but who knows.

I don’t think Vixens issues this weekend had anything to do with feeding. But rather not adapting to changes (in the shooting circle) or not adapting fast enough. Garbin -Austin were great against Fever, lots of shooter to shooter play slick passes and Garbin with phenomenal super shot shooting.

But they definitely have take aways on which shooting combinations to now hone in on. Eg, Garbin at GA is not worth it. It’s a preseason game so it’s great they tried it with Austin and Andrew at GS but seeing what it did to Garbin’s confidence (her start to the 4th quarter against TBirds in Gs was easily her least confident all weekend) it just is not worth it.

The Andrew at GA and Garbin GS combo worked well against Fever. They were down when Andrew came on and she intercepted a Fever CP, linked to Garbin well and shot a couple of shots. My only confusion is why they didn’t give Andrew a longer run? I saw enough of the Austin-Andrew combination to know that would work as well, it was their 3rd shooting combo that quarter so was a messy intro to them.

I personally would have left Graham on in the last against Fever. They were really struggling to penetrate and had lost all rhythm. They were going to lose so the benefits of Graham playing through that may pay off in the future.

After the NZ your they’ve consolidated their midcourt well. Walters appears to be focusing on WA only. Has a clear job and those off circle feeds to Garbin against Fever were pin point. They have a great connection. They just need to do the same with their shooting circle now. They’ve tried options and are focusing on consolidating now.

What is happening with Weston? Vixens say load management… mannix at GD remains a no for me but McKinnis must like it seeing how much she ran there over the weekend. I enjoyed Coffey’s run at GD. I’d love to see them try a Weston-Eddy circle but I’ve been waiting years so have limited hope. I favour Ellis over Mannix at GK.

I’m unclear on who the starting Fever GA will be. Wilkinson started very well against Vixens but by the end of the first quarter she had started to make errors through court as the Weston pressure built up. Then Vixens went to Mannix at GD and relieved the pressure. That won’t happen in SSN when players like Weston, Turner, Garrett, RBD will be relentless for 60 minutes.

Beckford is a play maker. She shot the super shot well and came up with what 3 intercepts against Vixens?

I can see them sharing it.

I’m also u clear on their best defensive combo. I think Dehaney may end up in the impact role but they can mix it up depending on opposition. Sunday Aryang may also end up playing quite a bit of WD.

Giants performance didn’t surprise me. I’ve said they are underrated and can’t understand them being tipped to be finish 7th. I still think WA may be a problem for them come SSN proper but they have plenty of experience to work with.

They should have beaten TBirds but they suffered the same fate as Vixens by trying untested combos and rookies. This is preseason and that’s what it for. They won’t do that in SSN.

Whilst they didn’t play on the weekend the player I’m tipping for a huge season is Jenner. She looks incredibly fit and looked good in their games against Giants.

Just read an article about Ravaillion. No return date is set. She is training.

Who do we think all teams 11th players will be.
I’m leaning towards Orr for tbirds

It would’ve been Nyah Allen if she was eligible, I reckon you’re right it could be Orr? She did really well, and her feeds were on point.

Casey is good too, but can she only play wd? That might be an option, if they want to play latty in gd.
